Phivolcs: Quakes hit Negros Occidental, Surigao del Sur

    At least two quakes rocked Negros Occidental in Western Visayas and Surigao del Sur in Mindanao Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

    There was no initial report of casualty or damage from both quakes, it said.

    The quake in Negros Occidental was measured magnitude 3.2 and was recorded at 9:48 a.m., according to a Phivolcs bulletin.

    Its epicenter was was 41 km southwest of Cauayan town in Negros Occidental.

    Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity III in Barangay Linawon, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, and at Intensity II in Barangay Basak, Cauayan, Negros Occidental.

    A second quake measuring magnitude 3.8 was recorded at 12:05 p.m. in Surigao del Sur in Mindanao, a separate Phivolcs bulletin said.

    The quake’s epicenter was 15 km northwest of Carrascal, Surigao del Sur.

    According to Phivolcs, the quake was felt at:

    — Intensity III: Carrascal and Cantilan, Surigao del Sur
    — Intensity II: Carmen, Surigao del Sur
    — Intensity I: Cortez, Surigao del Sur

    No aftershock was expected from both quakes, Phivolcs said
