Power generation is my current job, recently I’ve been working on a project using hybrid solutions for power. I would recommend a 2-3kw solar array wired into a mmpt with an invertor to the mains consumer unit to back up the mains power. Add to that have a battery bank wired into the mmpt to allow a longer sustained power supply. If you would like to be Uber protected add a meathnol fuel cell into the battery bank to charge the batteries at night or times of low uv.. just a thought I have had successful trials with this system in a jungle setting.

What equipment is required to put surplus into the grid?

    Hi
Hi. We have just had a new well put in. There are several wells on the lot for watering the garden. The reason for adding another was that the water smelled bad for the house and was not giving a good pressure for the shower. The original house well was 35 feet deep.
The guy who does the house and Lot maintenance with a team of workers thought 60 feet would be ok. So they proceeded to bang in 60 feet of steel 2 inch pipe hammered to a point with holes drilled around the bottom quite a lot of holes. They cleared out the debris by using a hand pump. Tested the water with guyabano leaves crushed and put into a cup of water. This turns blue if the waters bad. Which it was.
So another 20 feet of pipe was added. Success clean drinking water.
They are going to put the 1.5 inch blue pipe down inside the steel pipe and connect to the electric pump. Then we will see if we need to increase the size of the pump or go to a gravity system. It took them all day to get 20 feet of pipe into the ground so 4 days in all and bloody hard work banging it in.

Interesting, what do the guyabano (soursop) leaves indicate, is it foul or stagnant water?

Must admit, I try to avoid drinking groundwater, safer to buy plastic bottles.

The locals told me that not to drink it if it turns blue so I guess it’s foul water. I tried it at the 80 foot level it was fine no taste and no smell.

You need to use a net meter to show how much credit you put back into the grid. If you contact your power supplier they should be able to help with this

The potential problem from wells in urban areas , is contamination from septic tanks that deliberatly leak into the ground water

I think the deeper you dig should lessen the possibility somewhat but then you’re that deep you don’t have a pump strong enough to bring the water up.

I’ve not heard of gravity systems. Will have a look later.

Our well in Cavite is 102 Meters deep with a 4" nylon casing.. The pump is a 1.5 HP US Gould that pressurizes the tank that pushes the water up to the supply, gravity feed tanks on the concrete rooftop..
In hindsight it would have been preferable to put a submersible pump at the bottom of the well as those things will push the water in larger volumes directly to the gravity tanks.. Go submersible!
Gravity systems are OK but the higher the tank above your services (showers etc)the better the pressure.
