My wife arrives at the end of the week. Her passport (which expires 2031 !) and BRP will be in her maiden name.
She intends to use her married name for bank account, work etc. I know women can legally still use their maiden name when married but my question is, does she have to change her name straight away on the BRP ? Obviously if she does then she will have to change her passport as well. Or can she just leave it in her maiden name ? Im confused because the gov.uk web site states any changes has to be notified, including marriage. Surely this means everyone has to change the damn thing straight away because applications are made in their maiden names ?

I see the options being (but don’t want to fall fowl)
    1. Leave in her maiden name, in 30 months when applying for extension, apply in maiden name again.
    2. Leave but change before applying for extension.
    3. Change straight away and obviously waste money on a new passport too.

My wife went from spouse visa to ILR in her maiden name, at the point of applying for BC she went for a British passport with her married name ie my name. Her Filipino passport had 6 years left giving her dual citizenship for that period before she needs to apply for her Filipino citizenship back
As you say BRP and passport have to be the same and a lot of decisions you make on this will be driven by the duration of her Filipino passport at the Point of obtaining BC.
If you have a Filipino passport and become a Bc you carry duel nationality till your passport expires equally whilst your on the visa journey it makes absolute sense to if needed renew your Filipino passport.
    Example
Filipino citizen has to renew her passport at 2 years in to the visa journey therefore when she gets BC she will have approximately 6 to 7 years remaining on her Filipino passport and get BC plus passport and is a duel national till her Filipino passport expires.
Personally I would recommend keep in maiden name then if passport is due to expire during visa journey you can keep in maiden name till the new passport application is needed keep in maiden name or change and this will give you maximum duel citizenship at point of BC BRP and passport must match

Many thanks for that. Her passport does not expire until 2031. So leave passport/BRP in her maiden name for the next 5-6 years? My only thought is if she is using her married name for bank account etc and these things will be used as evidence of relationship for the extension application, Will the different names cause any issues with UKVI

My understanding it that this would only be due to lack of knowledge and reporting to Philippine authorities.

I do however agree with your advice, keep in maiden name and deal with passport expiration seperately.

Not sure if I was clear in my explanation. As Mattecube stated, I know both passport and BRP has to be in the same name. Just didn’t know if I had to change both straightaway or leave both in her maiden name even tho she is using her married name for bank account, work salary etc

No need to report it till the need to re -acquire until the Philippines passport is needed through expiry, The Republic Act 9225 (2003) permits it, as a matter of course.

my wife has kept her previous name all the way through to citizenship and British passport.
She renewed her fili passport at the London embassy in 2019 . She hasnt notified the filis she is now married to me, or that she is now a British citizen.

Different names do not cause issues, banks and such may want to see marriage certificate but no dramas, as I said earlier my wife used her maiden name upto BC then got her UK passport In married name and is holding her current Filipino passport in her maiden name till it expires. When the passport expires she will apply for he Filipino nationality back.
Neat trick for you as you get along the journey apply for Filipino name change and BRP name change to her married name this will give you new Filipino passport with long validity and she gets BC and UK passport she is dual national till Filipino passport expires
