Just trying to make sense of how this is going to operate. Me and my mahal are now virtually ready to apply for the fiance visa. If we do so before the cut off (9th July, was it?), does it means that the next application for the settlement visa will also be under the old rules?
Hi, would like to know the answer to this also. We just submitted our application last friday Its possible that the settlement visa will also be processed later on under the same rules, because, on the online application when we printed it, it said : "Category: Settlement Visa" "Type: Marriage" which could indicate that, in terms of processing... theres 1 case.. a settlement visa, and the fiance visa is like a kind of "Part 1 of 2" situation.. with part 2 being the actual settlement visa.
From my understanding, and comments on other websites, anyone applying BEFORE 9th July is subject to the old procedures for the life of their application (eg fiance visa, then FLR, then 2yrs later ILR ..... then after 3yrs residence, British citizenship) Anyone applying AFTER 9th July is subject to the new regime.
That's spot on BBJ Just a reminder that UKBA do say that a valid application is one where the payment has been made and the application submitted. The "changes" are effective on and after Monday July 9th 2012 The last working day for application submissions is actually Friday July 6th. (Unless VFS will be open over the weekend) Good luck to all those planning to beat the deadline.
Thanks for the reply folks. We were thinking about trying for the visit visa first but I think going down the fiance visa road is probably best, given the advantages under the current system. So my mahal goes in with her application on Friday 6th July!
