I was speaking with someone yesterday who said my wife should register her marriage to me at the Philippines Embassy.

He reckoned this is important in case she wants dual citizenship in the future.

I was just wondering if anyone here has heard of this or done it?

We did it at the same time as renewing the wife's passport at the Philippine Embassy in London.

Maybe we can do the same, but she doesn't need a new passport for another 2 years. I guess it's still ok to do it then.

    Its a requirement to get it done, but if I was you I would wait, it just costs a little more money if you register more than one year after the marriage;

Oh well, we've already missed out on the one year anyway. Been married over 2 years now! Time does fly.

Did you just get all the forms when you were there at the embassy?

We downloaded the forms from the Philippine Embassy website then submitted the documents when renewing the passport.

Good excuse for a London trip if you and the wife like it down there :)

I guess this only needs to be done when married in the UK?

I have enough London trips when I'm going to work. Don't need another one!! I think one day in the Philippine Embassy is better than two from what I hear about how busy it gets.

No. Not heard of that one.

Dual citizenship doesnt require that. As far as I know.

    Maybe for fiance visas, though.

It's if you get married outside The Philippines.

I think its down to sheer luck whether you have to wait ages at the Embassy or not, you just have to take your number and wait to be called. I think we were done and dusted in around three hours from what I remember, maybe less. Down to the numbers waiting, no appointment system in place, first come first served.

Three hours sitting in the Filipino embassy. I'll look forward to that then!

If you live within an easy commute to London it wouldn't be a bad idea to be outside the Embassy for when it opens.

Can't see the missus agreeing to that :)

Registering your marriage with the Philippines Embassy is a requirement. If you can schedule it pretty soon it'll be worth it.
It's one of those things that may well come back to haunt you if you don't get it done.
If you leave it too long the Embassy can get quite crusty about it and make life stressful, which is something to be minimised IMO
The Embassy is very easy to get to and there's a good few decent places to eat on the doorstep. We used to walk back up the road to a Japanese eatery. Serving ice-cold Asahi beer too

Does this apply to those married in the Philippines? Or just those married outside of the Philippines?

Just those married outside as their marriages wouldn't otherwise be recognised in the Philippines.

OK, so it seems we should do this. Am I right thinking we should fill out the forms, take the photos then just turn up without an appointment, take a ticket and wait our turn?

Timmers, I've downloaded the form to have a look. Where it says "Residence" did you put your home address or your country of residence?

And what does it mean by "Witness 1" and "Witness 2"? Is that the marriage witnesses oor witnesses to you filling out the form?

So many questions for such a short form!! :)
