    Hello everyone! I hope someone can answer this. Me and my spouse got married in Hong Kong and we submitted our uk spouse application in H.K as well. But what I'm worried about is that someone told me that I need to report first my marriage in phil consulate. Me and my spouse are both single. Will this affect my application since we didn't report our marriage prior to submitting our application

    I got married in Hong Kong this January but as I had to return to the UK and my wife to Phils we reported the marriage to to the Consulate in Hong Kong.
    Big Mac is absolutely correct if you are in HK and not travelling via Philippines you dont need to report the marriage.

    Just a quick question Bigmac. Do we really need to have all our documents certified?because my friend who will be submitting this month said it is a UK law.

    All documents need to be originals.,except sponsors passport...where a certified copy is required. A solicitor will do this for a small fee.

    I'm in the same situation; I'm in the UK and my wife is in the Philippines. Do you know if a certification by the UK Post Office would be accepted as a valid certification for my passport? Or does it have to be done by a notary public / solicitor?

    You don't need to have it certified. Just a colored clear photocopy of your passport and birth certificate is fine.

    I have a friend who applied the same time as me and they hired a solicitor and they were asked to have all their documents certified and that's what they did and they've been approved for the visa and same thing with me I got the visa as well but I never had my documents certified. My husband just went to his bank and request for a copy of his bank statement, and then his 6 months payslip, employment contract and then 2016-2017 P60.

    Thanks @diane1982 and @bigmac. Sorry for the late reply, but to let anyone in the situation know, our report of marriage was issued succesfully!
    I can confirm what diane1982 said; my passport photocopy (in black and white) was accepted, and didn't have to be certified.
    Since we wanted the Report of Marriage sent back to my wife in the Philippines, we also paid an extra $US30 to have the report shipped by Fedex.
    So in the end we submitted:
    • The Marriage Certificate from the Hong Kong Marriage Registry.
    • Four (4) original copies of completed Report of Marriage (ROM) forms. (downloaded from http://hongkongpcg.dfa.gov.ph/images/PDF/ROMform.pdf )
      The information to be written in the forms must be those obtaining/existing at the time of solemnization of the marriage;
    • My wife's birth certificate in NSO security paper;
    • My wife's Certificate of no marriage record (CENOMAR) in NSO security paper;
    • Photocopy of the data pages of passport both spouses (no need for colour copies, or any certification/notarisation);
    • I sent an international transfer (through TransferWise) of $US70 ($US40 processing fees + $US30 for the Fedex shipping costs)
    Once they received the documents they were quite quick, and sent out of the Report of Marriage 2 days later, as promised. Unfortunately it then took Fedex 1 1/2 week to deliver it to my wife in Davao (in their defence I think the Easter bank holidays didn't help...).
    Hope that can answer someone else's interrogation in the future.

    Cheers!
