Visited the previously much maligned Tampopo in the Trafford Centre, Manchester, today and Mrs Ash had Chicken Adobe for lunch. I had some Japanese noodle dish which was yummy. Yesterday we ate in a place called Rice. Where all the dishes are served with rice, as you might imagine. Mrs Ash enjoyed the south east asian slant to the food on both occasions.
I seen the adobo on the menu there but went for the Japanese katsu curry. The wife had teryiyak chicken
I had the Chicken Adobo from Tampopo (the one at Albert Square in Manchester) and Joy also had it. I liked it, plus she cleaned the plate so overall I took it as a success. That said, she enjoys Nandos more! Plus they're a lot cheaper so I guess Tampopo won't see me that often..
Having been to the Trafford Centre several times, I must admit that one is really spoiled for choice in regard to the variety of food outlets. And after experiencing my wife's cooking skills, I find it very difficult to sit quietly in an asian restaurant without comparing... The final option, normally would be Nando's, mainly because we cannot seem able to reproduce it at home and for cost. Tight...?? No........ Just careful.
Tampopo set us back about £40 plus just for Chicken Adobo, drinks and prawn crackers. When we go to Nandos we usually get a whole chicken, two small sides and drinks for £20.
I almost went to Nandos last year when I was in Kuala Lumpur, but I got lost wandering around between Chinatown and the Central Market and could not find it again. I always thought it was a Mexican style chain, but according to Wikipedia: "Nando's is a South African casual dining restaurant group originating from the Mozambican–Portuguese community with a Portuguese /Mozambiquan theme." Sounds like an interesting combo.
Good god there is no way I am paying 40 quid for a Chicken Adobo, you can get a top notch Japanese meal in Etsu in Liverpool for around 40 quid with drinks main course and starters.
We didnt pay that for it. We had two main courses, one of which was Chicken Adobo, a sweet and a soft drink each. They came to £32.00. So £16.00 per head.
More than 2000 peso still I am very fond of Adobo but I would still not pay that much for it in the UK
It was £40 for 2 meals, my memory must be a bit tainted but I've checked their website and the Adobo is £10.50 but we spent £40 somehow..
£6.95 at lunchtime. http://www.manchesterconfidential.co.uk/Food-and-Drink/Japanese/Lunch-at-Tampopo Something that tickled the wife was that within a few seconds of the drinks being punched into the waiters phone someone had obviously picked the signal up and brought the drinks even before the waiter had completed the order.
