After several heart attacks over recent years the Status Quo guitarist has died. I'm sure a lot of us here have fond memories of Status Quo as they have been on the British music scene for years. RIP http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-38427459
Oh dear. RIP Rick. Status Quo were the first band I ever saw play live, back in 1967, when I was a 16 year-old schoolboy in York, just after I'd also bought their first chart single... 'Pictures of Matchstick Men'. Later they changed their style, but were still beloved by us young 'headbangers' and 'air-guitarists'.
Yeah, you have to take your hat off to them, they went a long way on three cords, over 60 hits in the UK with over 20 in the top 20, you cannot really knock em.
I was at the famous Quo gig at the Glasgow Apollo which was recorded for live double album. The balcony was literally bouncing. They became a pale pastiche on later years but those denim clad rockers played an important part in my teenage years. I still play Piledriver, Quo and Hello on my car sound system - loud. I don't think Kris will approve! Rick became my FB pic for a few days when news of his death emerged. V sad.
I never got to see Quo although a lot of friends did go to those gigs in October 76, I was and am fond of them though and I do remember the way the balcony bounced but with Quo I can imagine it would have been terrifying
One of the best gigs I even went to Jim - only bested (just) by Lizzy at the Odeon in Edinburgh. Both amazing nights - great to have such memories in the locker.
