    Hi,

Has any Filipino with a British spouse recently travelled to Amsterdam and did not need a visa?

I am Filipino and married to a British national. I tried to apply for a visa online via VFS but the Visa Advisor tells me that I don't need a visa since-
    A) I intend to stay for less than 90 days
    B) My husband is British (family member who is an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen)
    C) I have a Residence Permit
    D) My husband will travel with me

I am quite sceptical about it because our plane ticket is non-refundable. I don't want to chance going to the airport and being refused entry.

Another thing that is making me doubt this is that the VFS website says: Residence permit for the United Kingdom, Ireland, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia or Cyprus that explicitly bears the phrase 'family member of EU citizen

Now, my BRP only say: Spouse/Partner Leave to Remain. I guess it's the word 'explicitly' that's making me nervous as I've heard some stories about couples being denied entry because they didn't have a visa even though they are travelling with their partners.

This is the VFS link I'm using: http://www.vfsglobal.com/Netherlands/UK/visa-services/tourist-visit.html

You still need to apply for a Schengen Visa. I have a few friends who travelled to Amsterdam just recently with their British partners but they had to apply for a Schengen Visa. For some weird reason the spouse of a British citizen cannot travel to an EU country without a visa but if another EU citizen lives in the UK (for example Romanian) and they have a Filipino spouse they can travel to Europe without needing a visa as long as they travel with their spouse and that’s also because their BRP will have a ‘family member of EU citizen’ remark in it.

This follows on from the fact that a non Brit EU citizen living in the UK can bring in their non EU spouse without the same requirements as a British citizen.
