Settlement Marriage Visa Inquiry

    Hello everyone,

I will be applying for a settlement marriage visa within the year, and I have some questions at hand that I hope you can help me with.

    1.) Visa Form:
a.) What is an appropriate answer in regards to the question "How long do you intend to stay in the UK?" on the visa form? As the Settlement marriage visa covers a 6 month period, would an answer of 6 months be best? Or, as I plan to then apply for the FLR visa, would entering 'permanent' or 'indefinite' be more suitable? I feel that, either way, 6 months may be the safest option, but any confirmation would be appreciated.
b.) I am unsure of how to approach the 'Additional Information' section, in which it asks "Is there any other information you wish to be considered as part of your application?". Are there any recommendations for information that we could enter here to further strengthen our application?

    2.) Language test:
    - I know that I should be taking A1 in the Philippines and A2 in UK, but I saw a thread in this forum suggesting to just take B2; I was wondering which would be the most suitable path forward?
Here are the threads: "ielts a1 or b2" and "new english language test"

    3.) Personal experiences:
    - And finally, as just a general question, are there any frequently reported pitfalls which are useful to be aware of? Though I feel me and my Fiance have a good grasp of the requirements and processes involved, we have never applied for this visa in the past. Therefore, knowledge of any common issues that arise would no doubt be helpful.

Apologies if this is somewhat convoluted and lengthy, but if anyone could answer any of the above questions that would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you. :)

    Hi Daisy.

    1. A. You answer permanent as you have to apply for extension after that.

    B. If you feel like there is something you need to explain in your application that you think the ECO needs to understand then you can put that in the Additional Information.

    2. I would suggest you take the B1 so you can reuse that when applying for the first and second FLR (M) in the UK and even for the ILR if rules won't change. I wish I took the B1 myself.

    3. Just make sure to meet all the necessary requirements like the Financial, Accommodation and Relationship. My friend was recently refused a fiance visa. They met the financial and accommodation but they failed to convince the ECO of having a genuine relationship. But anyway that's another story.

I'm sure you have a strong case. Best of luck :)

Thank you so much @Brom27. My fiance and I are very happy to have found this site, that's full of information on the do's and don'ts. The helpful and supportive community, puts our minds to rest and gives us confidence that our attempt is possible too. :)

    Hi Daisy,

My Fiance and I will be in the same situation as you and your Fiance soon, the process does look a bit daunting but like you, we are glad to have found this site also.

Are you getting married outside of the UK and then moving here or getting married here?

We are hopefully going to be applying for the Fiance visa, getting married in the 6 months and then changing it to the spouse visa, terminology is still new to me so not sure what the settlement marriage visa refers to.

Are you doing the whole process yourself or using a visa company to assist you?

Seems you are a little way ahead of us, my Fiance is coming over on a tourist visa in a months time, first visit to the UK.

Fiancé visa is actually called “marriage settlement visa” so it means the same thing.

    Hello @IMegy ,

I successfully got my Fiance visa and was married here in the UK last 24th of February. We are actually preparing our FLR (M) visa, the first extension visa after the fiance visa. :)

We didn't hire any solicitor, we just did our own research and with the help of everyone in this forum my visa was granted within 1 month of submitting my application. ;)
