Verging on the ridiculous: council sign protects tiny patch of grass

This "Keep Off The Grass" warning sign is protecting possibly the tiniest strip of turf in London.

It was installed by council workmen to stop drivers ruining a patch no bigger than two feet by three feet.

Today Merton council defended its decision to keep the sign, saying it was there to deter rogue parking.

The English is clear enough to lorry drivers - but the Welsh reads "I am not in the office at the moment. Send any work to be translated."

Are you sure that's not Cumbernauld or East Kilbride, nothing depresses me more than the "New Town" land of the roundabouts :)

Skem is a bit like that too :(

(Removed my last comment from this post as on a day like today it was in very bad taste :( sorry guys, I was not thinking properly)

Why did they not just erect a sign, saying no parking on the footpath?

The office of the Welsh translator is at fault here - he should well know that sending auto-response in Welsh only is a pretty stupid idea when the people emailing him in the first place don't speak a word of Welsh. He could have at least written the auto response in both Welsh and English, as will be required anyway as all official documentation in Wales must be bilingual.

How do we know that the reply was not in English as well? The translator did say to send anything, even though he was out of the office! The recipient probably thought that the Welsh was an automated translation of the English words he wanted to translate!
