    Hi all,

Just a quick question for those who have been through the process. I am in 2 minds whether me and my wife should make the spouse application ourselves or to pay a solicitor specialising in UK visas and immigration. Just trying to find out if anyone has done the application themselves and how straightforward it is rather than pay excessive solicitor's fees!

    Kind regards,
    Lee & Grace

where were you thinking of hiring a solicitor--here or the philippines ?

i think the majority on here DIY'd it.....but it depends if your circumstances are straightforward---particularly the sponsorship.

The important thing to remember is that if you do decide to seek a advisor, you need to hire one who has a good reputation, regardless of this they cannot guarantee success.

Like the other chaps say, best to do the application yourself if it is a straight forward case.

If you need help then you can just post here and somebody will help you, good if you peruse the immigration help section of this forum to get started as its pointless just asking questions until you gain an understanding of the visa requirements.

Its not difficult at all, it just appears that way when you start out.

Thank you for the replies. Very much appreciated. Everything is straightforward. Out of curiosity I looked at getting a solicitor here but the fees are very high.

You are looking at around £1200 to pay the solicitors. If you ask your questions here we might be able to help you. :) And if I were you it's better to pay for the priority service instead than getting the solicitors. ;)

Just take your time researching here and you will be fine.
Feel free to ask questions too.
We did ours ourselves and this forum helped a ton.

We were quoted £900 for the application and we have a straight forward and clean immigration history. I havent even joined the forum at that time.

So as long as you have read the requirements on the uk.gov website, you should be okay. I have paid the cost of solicitor for priority service and towards the cost of the flight.
Ask away any questions if you are unsure of something. The members of the forum have been very helpful.
