I recently posted about whether I could obtain a fiance visa for my Filipino bf on the basis of the "adequate maintenance" rules ..ie that I claimed P.I.P and other benefits. That is still my aim.....but what I want to ask now is....do the same "adequate maintenance " rules also apply to a standard visitor visa(for a much shorter visit)?-or would I need to fulfill the £18.6k requirement,or my bf have a job & bank account?
Thanks in advance for all your wise advice.

Visitor visa is harder to obtain. You do not need to meet the 18,600 requirement but you do need to show you can support him whilst he is here. Your bf’s part will be the hardest as he needs to show strong ties to the Philippines like a job, a property or his studies if he is still studying.

I applied for a visit visa few years ago and was denied as the HO didn’t believe I would return to the Philippines after obtaining the visa. We didn’t know what to do after the refusal so we hired a solicitor and we basically submitted the same documents and then we were granted.

I didn’t have a bank account nor a job when I applied but the reason I had then was that I’m going back to the Philippines for the board exam.

Is your bf working in the Philippines? What can he show to prove social and economic ties to the Philippines?

the applicant has to show adequate funds in their own bank account to cover the visit expenses for the time and tourism costs. but dont just dump a lump of cash in the account. its a cheap visa--£90 ish: expect a refusal--the reason will be given--then re-apply if you can overcome the refusal reason. cheaper than hiring a solicitor.

But if I'm his financial sponsor why would he get refused for a visitor visa,if he would succeed in getting a fiance visa on that basis?(after all a visitor visa is for a short period).
The only "ties" I can think of are his sick and elderly father and a small business selling drinks, which yorlds a negligible income.
It shouldn't be that difficult just for a visit visa,!!!...what a stupid government we have.

We have never shown adequate funds in my wife's eldest daughter's bank account for our successful visit visa applications and the rules don't say you have to!
They say that you have to have demonstrate you have adequate funds to fund the trip ( we always show my savings account as a sponsor) and our invite letter always states I am funding the trip in it's entirety.
