Hi, we have received wifes son visa and are planning the trip to collect him. What I am confused about is the BRP, particularly this - Check your decision letter. It will tell you to collect your BRP from... The family in Manila only received the passport, no letter, so is the letter posted to our address in UK or Manila? Do we have to nominate the wife to collect the BRP before traveling ? I would just like to say thanks to the forum as we read LOTS of posts about the child settlement visa and are grateful that with this help we were sucessful first time. Richard
You should of nominated a post office in the UK to collect the BRPs from youshould of got a letter to your UK address confirming it. You have 10 days to collect the BRPs after they land.
Just to tidy this thread up, we had to nominate someone to collect the BRP. The reply from UK Gov included where and when. To be clear, there was no mention of this on the visa application! Off to Manila soon to collect him
Rich A,I'm just wondering if you adopt your wife's son in the Philippines before you filed the child visa because at the moment me and my English husband wants to get my kids here in the UK. The problem is he didn't adopt them yet. Did you used the child settlement visa under flrm form? Hopefully you will guide me what to to do to get them.. thank you.
Hi Mai, I didn't adopt him, it isn't necessary, but i understand some have found it could help. We completed the form online through the UK Gov site which guides you to the correct form to fill in, i cant remeber which one it was now, sorry.
Thank you so much at least I'm not worrying now regarding to that thing. How long did you wait for the result of the visa? Did you used premium service? If so how many weeks you need to wait? And last one question did you applied here in the UK or in the Philippines? How many years your wife's sons visa?
We didn't use the premium, it took around 2 or 3 months after we submitted the application. It took longer for us to prepare the supporting docs and make sure we we happy with our application. We applied from the UK. The son was granted a 30 day travel visa to get to the uk. His BRP/Settlement was alligned with mothers BRP, about 2 years in our case, you collect the BRP when in the UK. It basicaly happens like this - Son gets tuberculosis cert from doctor in PI complete and submit form online with payment book appointment online af VFS Manila son goes to VFS in Manila with passport and appointment letter for biometrics we send ALL supporting docs to Sheffield visa office. This includes any docs that are in PI, like sons birth cert tuberculosis test letter, send them all to uk in good time by DHL or similar. pay IHS (the UK Gov website said it was free for under 16, but we later got an email saying this is an error on the web site and we needed to pay £400 in 5 days or the visa was declined with no refund!) son receives passport back with 30 travel visa register Son on CFO website Son collects CFO sticker in passport from CFO office (we did this when we flew out to collect him) Nominate someone to collect Sons BRP here in UK Collect Son from PI Collect BRP I am rushing when i type this and can't remember all the exact details, but it will give you an idea of what to research and expect. It is a long process but take your time, research, ask questions and plan ahead in pleant of time.
One other thing to note is who is named on the childs birth cert. If it is "Unknown" then thats good. If the father is named then you will need to get his permission to leave the PI. We had unknown on our cert so made that part easy.
Their father died 2 years ago. But having said that he was never part of their life. It only happened when I gave birth they put his surname on the paper.
Advice from posts in other threads has been to get the death certificate and include in the visa application.
From our experience, if the father is named on the birth certificate..is still alive..and has any involvement with the child...then the application is likely to fail. It's up to the mother to prove she has sole responsibility, which is going to be difficult if she is already living in the UK. It happened to us..and any new application will involve a competent immigration lawyer here in the UK.
Somebody advised me 2 weeks ago, that it might be hard for me to get the kids because my English husband needs to adopt them first. On my marriage settlement and flrm visa I always put the name of my kids on the form because we want to come over as well. Since he's already dead I think there should no problem when we file the visa for them.
As @bigmac says it is more difficult to bring children across on a visa if the biological father is still alive, in your case he isnt so the visa process for your kids will be a little easoer. Your husband does not have too adopt them to bring them over he will however be their sponsor. Let us be clear on that point, i brought my wifes daughter over without adoption. My wife was a widow In yhe application ensure you provide the death certificate and ideally if you can get a copy of your husbands birth certificate that would be good (the application process asks for it) if you cant do not worry.
Thank you now i can settle my mind and start to gather documents for them. Highly appreciate all your help
Yes they will tell you where to collect the BRP from but you have the option of selecting a PO office of your choice providing its a PO that provides the service, and you can collect or nominate
