Taxi's at NAIA

What's your view on the safest taxi's?

When I first went to the Phils many years ago I got the metered taxi's that are just across the underpass from the main exit at NAIA, still in the airport grounds.

I always found these taxi's to be very good and very safe until this year and to a smaller extent last year.

Recently Manny's Yellow Cab Taxi company has started picking up right outside the exit and a little to the left (for the last year or so I guess).

Since this started the traffic through the old ticket system taxi's across the road has dried up and the nice guys in that company are no longer so nice, I've had lots of, you are my first hire today and I am losing lots of money I need a large tip, which never used to happen :(

I was so upset the last time as I was a bit skint and lacking local funds when I arrived and I felt rather intimidated and was just glad to get home but the guy made me nervous enough that I gave him a fiver (UK money) as a tip as he obviously knew where I lived.

Now this is just out of order it's a 450 peso fare to our place from the airport and the tip on a good day should be 100 peso and a bad day 50 peso.

So next time I might try the yellow cabs belonging to Manny Pacquiao, really when I get there I just want to get home and relax, I don't wan't hassle the minute I get off the plane :(

So anyone know if Manny's service is ok?

We find about 50 percent of them are pretty good, nice and friendly in and around Manila, the airport ones expect more though, they always have.

It's the 20 peso each for each guy that loads your bags into the taxi before you've even gone anywhere that gets me, I mean one guy could do it, hell I would do it, or the bleedin driver could do it.

Sometimes feels like you are getting mugged the minute you get off the plane

If they won't switch on the meter we just get out, if they ask for plus x peso then they don't get a tip but if they are nice and friendly and talk to us and particularly if their car is falling to bits we will usually tip well :)

Last time we went there this ticketed taxi rank the bloke putting the bags in the boot wanted 100peso for just lifting from the kerb to the boot, all of about 4 foot!!!!! The missus gave him and the ticket guy a mouth full and we just got into the taxi and went. Lucky the driver seemed a good bloke and took us direct to the hotel. I seem to remember tiping the driver reasonably well.

I really think it luck of the draw regarding drivers and all airport taxi's are horrifically expensive all over the world. I fly in and out brum airport every 5 weeks and a taxi from my house is about 35 quid. THe journey back using airport taxi is 75 quid!!!!!!!!!! What the f**k!!!

Yeah I once forgot to arrange my return taxi from Manchester, ended up paying 100 quid to get to skem.

Good that your wife put the guy in his place though :D

Learned my lesson at NAIA. Now walk 10 or 15 mins (with wheels on the suitcase) to main highway. If a taxi pulls up I say 'meter.'

Yeah but that 10 or 15 minute walk can be dangerous in it's own right.

If you walk over the road and through the tunnel down to the meeting area you can get out that way but for me probably be better to get Ana to come and pick me up. I stopped her doing that years ago but maybe I will start that again, only problem the taxi driver knows you are an airport pickup and still tries to do "plus x peso".
