    Reported on BBC too.

If this is linked with the recent events, then it is even more of a concern. Thoughts with all affected. No deaths reported, and I hope that's how it stays.

Right next to the airport, bet the traffic is backed up for miles.

It's being played down a bit on Sky now, saying a man set fire to tables in the casino but there was nobody shot and no indication it was terrorism.

Thankfully not terrorist related. But obviously had some mental issues.
Feel sorry for the families who have lost loved ones through this though.

I have a friend who used to work in Resorts World Manila, his former colleagues in RWM said they saw 6 gunmen open fired in the casino and burned some tables. Some people inside the casino jumped from the 2nd floor just to escape the fire and the shooting. As of 11:00 am PH time there are 37 people found dead, due to suffocation. The local media said that there is only one gunman, but as per many witnesses they saw more than one.

This looks like a case of a gambling addict who ran amok. Very Filipino.

Philippine casino gunman likely a foreigner: police
A gunman who set fire to a casino in the Philippine capital today leading to at least 36 deaths was likely a foreigner, the Manila police chief said.
“He looks caucasian, he talks English, he’s big and he’s white, so he’s probably a foreigner,” Manila police chief Oscar Albayalde told reporters.

Presumably that's who Rappler is claiming is the gunman. In which case the Manila Police Chief has made yet another false accusation based on the PNP's well-known inexcusable anti-foreigner sentiment.

Thanks, Andrew. But whilst Rappler is better than almost every other Philippine media outlet, there is still an annoying lack of information in its coverage. They presumably know the identity and/or nationality of the gunman - since they publish a photo of a man they claim was the gunman - so why not publish?

I assume Rappler won't say more until they have fact checked.

One does wonder how an individual was able to bring a long gun into the casino, which obviously has "security guards".

Every hotel I have been to, or stayed in, in the Philippines is protected by security guards who frisk everyone entering. From time to time x-ray baggage scanners are brought-in. Either he bribed a guard to carry the dismantled gun in bags through the main door and met him inside or Resorts World's security is crap.

Wouldn't a fire escape door be an alternative method of entry as it would be unguarded? Forcing it with a crowbar wouldn't be beyond imagination. Hot humid nights in Manila might have meant it was propped open or left open with an ashtray nearby. (just supposition, no facts here)
