well its that time of year again when my personal breakdown cover is due for renewal ,

the renewal price will be deducted from your account on such a date as we have your details already,

dont think so son, not at that price, :boxer: time for the phone call ,

happens every year ,so why do it when they know when you phone them they will knock it right back down to wat you paid last year or risk loosing the custom to one of the other recovery companys,

ah well nice try AA :D

Have you tried any cashback websites like Quidco or Reward Gateway? I got £50 cashback from a £105 AA yearly membership. A few years ago, when I joined the RAC, I got £20 cashback from my £34 yearly breakdown cover.

May I say thanks to all. (for your kind financial support)
I have a very good deal from the CSMA for breakdown and car insurance which are h due before April.
(google CSMA if you don't know, He he)

Have to say though, I'm seriously considering downsizing my car. Just ridiculously high running costs now.
Can't imagine I'm gonna find a buyer though :erm:

I hear you. I just px'd my 1.4 Pug 206 for a much smaller but cheaper to run 1.0 Pug 107. The 107 is £20 road tax a year. The Insurance is Group 1. The mpg is around 60. Even better, its only £25 to fill the tank. Its no wonder these 'city cars' are selling in big numbers.

    Mine is a real gas-guzzling 3.2
mpg is around 18-25 on a good day. Oh, on a good motorway run cruising at 70+ it goes way up to 30mpg.
Car tax at £280 I think.
Lucky me it just sailed through the MOT on Friday with only a set of wiper blades needed (£133.78 per pair)
I was thinking the garage owner felt sorry for me (childhood friend but not close now), but had a long long list of advisory notes.
    Bahh!

 What are they gold-plated or something? Even a Ford Transit wiper blades are a mere £45 pair.

Well, that's 'stealership' prices. At that price I requested they fit them. I always seem to have difficulty fitting wiper blades. :erm:

My S2000 if I still had it would cost 445 quid a year in road tax, I would love another one but it is very very unlikely that I will ever ever be able to afford one, even though it is discontinued and they are all second hand now.

My Accord is expensive enough, I only do tiny mileage these days so the car is very expensive to run, getting about the same mpg as you Peter but my Accord is only a 2 litre engine, it's not bad on the motorway I still get about 33mpg which is the same as when I bought it in 2001, but when only driving round town it is terrible.

I too have a long list of advisories but you would expect that on a car with 130,000 miles on the clock, it only does about 3000 miles a year now so I get by, but when a tank of fuel costs 84 quid you start to think about cheaper alternatives. I would change to something else but my car is worth next to nothing now, it is really only worth the fact that it runs, I would be hard pressed to get anything from selling it, even though it still looks to be in great condition and is still very very pretty :)

For various reasons I pay my AA membership monthly currently 15 quid a month which is way to much but I do need it for the occasional longer trip that I make.

ah im not the only one with a big motor to run, mines a 3.0 and does about 23 on a good day :)but i wouldnt down size because i only use the car at a weekend to run the boss about, and its the smoothest most comfy motor ive had, and realy do enjoy driving it even though not very often as its parked up all week,
i use my van daily for work, but having 2 motors does eat the pounds with tax and the other joys of being a motorist brings ;)

untill the mrs passes her test the 3.0 stays :) will downsize when that day comes, because she will need a few cushions to see out of the present motor

The engine management computer on my Mondeo shows to be hovering around 48/49 miles per gallon, and on a motorway trip at steady 62MPH it climbed to 50.2, but I don't know how accurate it may be.
    So all bets are off.
Tax £135 and the MOT last month also broght an unexpected pass accompanied by advisory notes for the next one...
Yup, if I sell I won't get much for it, may as well stick with it for a couple of years. I would love to downsize, but in the summer my job brings me all over the country, and driving in a smaller car would really be a huge hurdle, comfort wise.
