Haha I think you're right. Going to hold off till we're back to the UK. Not sure what to get though. I like Samsung products but I'm toying with a chromebook for what I actually use a computer for these days. Yes vuza is what I use to download torrents. Don't really download films as I prefer to buy the bluray to get the best quality, but I do download tv shows mainly for when I'm at work. Some FLAC format music aswell. I'll not list the sites I use as it might bring unwanted attention.

The wife likes to download movies, for free of course, and she was just saying earlier that the site she has been using to download the movies has been closed down, she just downloaded that movie that's created a bit of a stir in N Korea, The Interview.

Does anyone know of any sites you can download movies from? for free of course, I'm poor now after paying all those visa fees for the wife and cant afford to buy films through legitimate outlets

VPN is a great idea for China, little surprised they haven't blocked it yet, the loved one did the same when she was living in Dubai, its all good.

Not its wise to list those types of sites on a public forum is it? Not sure if downloading is a grey area legally is it? I can PM you the couple I use. It is harder to do which is why I'm looking to get a VPN to get round the firewalls

Quite interesting to read that Pirate Bay had held the number one position in the Top 10 torrent sites of 2014, and now it has been closed down. Might be back sometime soon.

I use PrivateInternetAccess as a VPN, never had any problems with it, and it has a good reputation.

The missus was using rarbg for quite a while but it has now been blocked.

i went through a phase of downloading free films-----ive now got about 100 gigs worth on a hard drive. sadly most of them are utter garbage--in fact--you couldnt pay me to watch them.

I download films purely to put on my NAS but to be honest I prefer to get blurays because of the best sound and pic quality. TV shows are my main one. I downloaded TOR yesterday but I think it difficult to download via that server, still not sure. I don't use piratebay due to the high virus risk.

The piratebay website (.se) had been displaying a digital clock counting up the time that its torrent service had been offline.

The clock direction has now reversed, it is in countdown mode, counting down to the first of February.

Almost all films and TV shows are encoded using either H.263 or H.264 both of which are MPEG-4 - H.264 encoded movies often have the extension ".MKV" whilst H.263 ones are usually either ".AVI" or ".MP4". Your computer can NOT catch a virus from such files as they do not contain any executable code. Demonoid is an invitation-only torrent site where you'll find all the latest stuff uploaded very quickly. I'm able to obtain episodes of "Still Open All Hours" within a couple of hours of it being televised on BBC-1. Same with with the two Top Gear episodes shown over Christmas.

I think we can take it that it will be up and running again then in February.

Interesting and reassuring post by Markham, viruses are always something you are worried about when visiting these kind of sites.
