OVIVO has launched as a new MVNO (uses Vodafone) supported by advertising (Smart Phone required). It is a SIM-only deal with no contract . The SIM card costs £5 and includes £5 of credit. You then get 200 minutes/month 200 texts/month and 512MB data/month for free indefinitely!

In order to keep the SIM card alive you just need to make one phone call every sixty days. Any calls outside the call plan are charged at just 6p/minute.

OVIVO generates income by displaying adverts on your smartphone (Android, IOS or Windows 7) There is also a data only plan (1GB/month) - ideal for tablet and laptops that have a SIM card slot.

I have just signed up and will probably use it on my main phone. My existing Talkmobile SIM (unlimited data plan £2.50p/month) can then live permanently inside my Chromebook!

Because I route calls on my mobile handset over VOIP, I am independent of mobile operators. As long as I never hand out my mobile number and only provide my VOIP (01) number to others, I can still receive on my mobile when I change SIMs, without any having to notify anyone of a new number!
