My knowledge of history is quite poor, just watched this on BBC2 and there was a very sad episode when the Beatles had to go to the Phils around about 1965-66 and apparently upset Emelda and Ferdie by not turning up at a function, next thing they were being pushed around the airport and told they were just ordinary passengers. The terms used were, "thugs were sent out make their lives as bad a possible while they were there" and I quote George as saying "well I didn't even want to go that time, we had heard it was a terrible place anyway and when got there that time it was proved." For George the Phils trip was the last straw he hated flying but the Phils trip ended it for him. Very sad to see a programme like this and get their real feelings, given how loved they are now in the Philippines.
P20 to see The Beatles. Inflation, dontcha just love it... I did get to see them once, at Donny Gaumont. We nipped out to the bar while a support act was on, and there was Brian Epstein, sat alone, looking thoroughly miserable and world-weary. Thought it best not to ask him for his autograph... [Is it just me, or is everyone suffering from a missing ribbon in the Reply window? You know, the bit where you can select Smileys, change font, etc.]
