Hello everyone, I'm heading for London next week, and I have only a day to spare for some sightseeing. Can you suggest attractions that are just within walking distance from Whitehall Place area in Central London, where I will be staying? Thank you so much!:D

If I were you I'd take a walk along The Mall to Buckingham Palace, then a quick stroll through the park to Green Park tube station where you can buy some postcards and bits and bobs of touristy stuff. Here you can also jump on one of those famous 'hop-on-hop-off' tour buses that will allow you to see and experience almost all the important sightseeing spots.
The tour buses have their own tourist guide and are equipped with headphones and commentary in many languages.
Some tours also include a river cruise.
    Simples.
What a wonderful way to spend a day London
Hopefully the weather will be kind, who knows.

Let us know how you get on.

By the way, the London Eye is very good, but will take up far too much of your time from the start of your queue to stepping off. Forget that one.

Or alternatively there is a Macdonalds just off Trafalgar Square, on Horse Guards Parade, I seem to recall...:D

Take a coat, woolly hat and gloves because the wind around Westminster is bitterly cold this time of year :like:

Thanks a lot everyone for the tips and kind suggestions! Back in the Philippines now, but happy that my first trip there turned out really lovely despite the bitter cold. Was able to go to almost all of the places you've recommended within the area, and true enough, they were all within walking distance (even dropped by the McDonalds at Trafalgar hehe) and could have gone to more had it not been for the weather :)

Ronto: Here's a shot I took from the McDonald's near Trafalgar Square. Been wondering if the Philippine flag would look good on a taxicab as well. ;-)

They have some spiffing new buses down there now, eh!
Yes we popped into Macdonalds there too, after visiting the Horse Guards and before visiting Trafalgar Square.

Natnat, they did have a "More Fun in the Philippines" campaign advertised on the buses and taxis for a while, BTW.

The weather wasn't so kind when I went, but I still had fun. Loved the concept of the hop-on-hop-off bus tour! Thanks for the help!

Wow! Too bad I missed this, but there were some people there who did remember this ad, esp. when they learned where I came from.

What about the Tower of London?
Its only about 40 Quid for two adults!!
Go on!! You can afford it.
After that you can both have an 8 Quid tourist ice cream cornet each.

Madame Tussauds tickets on the day will set you back £60 for a couple
London Eye on the day around £40 per couple
Lots of different Hop-on-Hop-off deals but expect around £40-£50 per couple

    Expensive

Glad to hear you had a great time in London.
We've also suffered unkind weather conditions on our tours, heavy showers, hot sunshine and cold summer winds. Hahaha The joys of UK weather.
