Tourist & fiance visa

    Hello all,

My fiance, Rowena (also on here) has returned to UAE from her visit a couple of weeks ago and is planning to come over again within her current tourist visa, which expires at the end of August.

After this we will be applying for the fiance visa, but due to work stipulations we may have to wait a bit, basically I will be starting my permanent job in two weeks time and we've been told I will need to have been in this for 6 months minimum, although I have been working as a contractor for the same company doing the same job.

So that she can visit again between the current tourist visa and the fiance visa we want to apply for another tourist visa, whether this is a 6 month one or 2 years we are not sure yet.

My question is, can we apply for the fiance visa midway through the duration of the tourist visa, whichever duration we end up going for, or do they have to run consecutively? The answer could impact when and how we proceed.

    Many thanks in advance

You dont need to wait for the tourist visa to expire. You can apply anytime you want as long as you have all the requirements.

Just be aware, the applicant cannot apply for a Fiance(e) Visa whilst IN the UK on a Tourist/Visitor Visa. As @Maley says, (and as far as I know) there is nothing to stop your Fiance(e) going back to the UAE before any Tourist/Visitor Visa expires and beginning the application for a Fiance(e) Visa...

So as far as both of you are concerned, we could get another tourist visa towards the end of this tourist visa, maybe a two year visa, and then as and when the time is right and we fullfill all the criteria we can apply for the fiance visa, if so thats cool and how I was hoping it would work.

    Cheers guys

I was under the impression Tourist/Visitor Visas are only valid for 6 months, but maybe there are different types/duration - who could realistically support themselves for 2 years without working, or expect an employer to hold open a job position?

There are 4 duration's available, 6 months, 2 years, 5 years or 10 years, with the maximum allowed time per visit being 6 months, see below a screenshot from https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor-visa below

Edited to change to 4 options, not 3

I see - 6 months is the maximum stay at any one time.

I do not think you have to have been in the same job for 6 months, you need to have been working for six months .

On a PAYE basis, I am currently contracting and not PAYE so this counts as self employed and you can't mix and match by the looks of it

what an odd series of prices. but then no different to most UKVI fees. no rhyme or reason.

Given the low success rate for Visitor Visa applications, why would anyone pay to apply for a non-refundable 'long-term' Visa? Depending on how long you have to be out of the UK, in between 6 month (maximum) stays, it barely makes economic sense to apply for a 2-year visa - although, as we know, the cost will probably go up by an indeterminate amount each year...!
