I've been looking at some quotes for insurance to cover 2 months in Pinas, cheapest I have found so far is £109 to cover that time.. Now, when I went for 3 weeks my insurance cost me £15 (or thereabouts). For you guys who have been in Pinas for a long time or a few months, what kind of insurance did you get? And is it worth considering a few different insurance policies, one after another and each one going for about 3 weeks?
I doubt that Keith or Al will have extended cover over there Sean. 109 quid is not bad for an extended trip, I currently use Wexas http://www.wexas.com/travel/insurance/ not sure if they offer the insurance to non members but I got a free membership last year so got my employer to buy this insurance as I have to travel on work sometimes. Wexas has up to 92 days cover for a single trip and costs 72 quid. Sorry that's 72 quid for multi trip cover per annum short of the protection you get with top end American Express cards, I think Wexas is one of the best deals, not so good if you have to Join Wexas as well though, not really sure if you have to do that?
Thanks oss, not sure if it is worth joining Wexas for the insurance. But then again they offer 3 months free upon joining them... But one to consider
Actually Sean it would be worth looking at American Express Travel insurance too. https://www201.americanexpress.com/...te.do?perform=IntlEapp:TIUK:travel_insurance& 85 quid for 62 days. Multi trip 240 days max in a year.
Amex is who i was with till the 20th but discovered 120 days is the max in one go not worth renewing now with 3 weeks to go its a bit of a lottery epecially as you get more ancient lol but for sure you want someone who going to get on the case for you if you do need hospitalisation the buggers wont touch you without that or hefty cash deposits
If you go onto www.moneysupermarket.com/travel-insurance there are many insurance companies providing world-wide (excl. Americas) multi-trip insurance cover (max. 60 days/trip) from £75/year. Just make sure that Philippines is included in the destination list! This is ideal (almost) for 59 day Philippines visas. Single trip policies for the Philippines of 60 days are probably not worthwhile. Also look on the following, as they are not listed on moneysupermarket.com: www.aviva.co.uk/travel-insurance www.directline.com/travel
Sorry, no, you selected only European cover. There is no 62 day maximum on any worldwide multi-trip policy with American Express, but there is on one of their European policies. You probably did a search, pressed the BACK button (which reset your search criteria) and then pressed SEARCH again.
Crappy website (and I'm a programmer ) I checked again the kind of cover Kuya is looking for would be about 137 quid to get the number of days required. 45 days is only 56 quid though for worldwide excl US via amex. The Wexas cover is worldwide though and including business use cost me (correction) 114 quid, I have the policy documents in front of me right now, the cover states Worldwide the 72 quid version excludes the business use, it's a good policy but as I said I'm not sure if it is available to non members.
oss... I have checked Wexas PDF, the £72 multi-trip policy is for Europe only (maximum 31 days/trip). If you need multi-trip worldwide cover (max 92 days/trip) the cost is £149 If you need multi-trip worldwide cover (max 60 days/trip) the cost is £122 No point in buying a 60-day or 92 day single trip policy from Wexas - it is more expensive than multi-trip policy. All prices are without business use.
I think you will find that the policy has to start before or on the day of your travel, so your first three week policy may well be valid but your remaining policies would not be.
Just been searching through some packages meant for backpackers! Can work out cheaper, seen one at £50 or thereabouts... Seeing as I am heading all over the place and sometimes not staying in hotels, this might be the better option?
Check the small print, check out the FCO website. Nothing is going to be 100% when visiting Pinas Especially when taking domestic flights, and especially when visiting Mindanao. Just to be aware of what you may or may not claim should that ever be needed, and to make appropriate adjustments (if it's possible) I often have to accept that certain parts of my holiday are just not covered. Just my 2 centavos
Yeah, the main thing for me is medical insurance. If I get caught out with some crazy tropical disease then I want to be insured whilst I am there. Some backpackers insurances are still limited to a 28 day trip and no more (?) so I am checking them all in terms of what they offer and what not. Some also cover kidnapping Well, not to pay the ransom but to get a relative to that country to meet with embassy officials. Still looking though as I can leave that one thing until the last moment.... Unlike something like my certificate of no impediment!
