I am inviting my wife's mom to visit in the spring from manila, I can apply for a tourist visa 3 months before she arrives. My experience is that it take 2 applications, the first is always rejected, but they detail the reason(s) why it's refused. Then on the second application you address the issue(s) and it's granted. Has anyone managed to get a visit visa first time? What do I need to complete a perfect application.

    Thanks

i think youre absolutely correct. Think of the first visa fee as value added tax.

First question is have you applied for tourist visa previously in which case just replicate what was needed last time.

Key issues that need to address are applicants reasons for coming, how applicant will support herself and why applicant will return to Philippines.

Need to make sure the evidence you supply makes logical sense. Saying that you will support and then showing bank account which has ending balance insufficient to support applicant for period of visit. Look through evidence and ask yourself what is reason to turn someone down as opposed to what would be reason to grant visa.

Only done one visit visa which was successful first time and that was a marriage visit visa where we supplied an evidence pack similar to a spouse visa application so didn't have any issues.

One question is how long is she planning to visit for. If not full six months then can get application in earlier applying on departure date less nine months basis (start date three months after application). If successful then no issues but gives time to apply again.

We have now had several for my wife’s eldest daughter and her daughter the first where successful at the first attempt.
We showed enough money in our savings account to more than cover the cost of her visit, we demonstrated that the accomadation was organised ( she was staying with us)
Also as my wife at the time was on the visa journey why would we potentially jeopardise that journey by allowing them to overstay.
Also last year had a first visit visa for wife’s mom who had lived in USA for 20 odd years was going back to live in the Philippines so visited us and other family in UK for 6 months on her way!
Yes hard to get but current first time success rate is north of 70%
