Typhoon kills 10 in Philippines, shuts Manila, cuts power, prompts evacuations

    Yep, that's the one. Earlier this week, Henry (Matmo) was expected to cross Samar and pass to the north of Tacloban and continue on to Boracay. However it appears to have been deflected by southwest monsoon and is on course not to make landfall in the Philippines:

    Looks like I will be flying over that beastie on Monday en-route to Taipei :eek:

    That looks fairly harmless. Might rain a bit.

    Hainan island is a more likely target I think, John, although it might well make it a bit windy and wet on Taiwan.

    Just back from 6 days in the province (western samar). First 2 days where great, the rest of the time it just pished down. Still our wood house stood up well to the wind an rain.

    Owing to the destruction of this typhoon, 3 out of 5 chicken farms to close.

    Sad to hear, hopefully the workers will have been able to transfer without losing their jobs.

    Many of them have lost their jobs. Just shows you how fragile a business can be in the Philippines. Turn the clock back and who would have thought. Except that somewhere in the Philippines is going to take a battering at sometime or other and several times over. This time it included Cavite.
