Is anyone here a UK DLA sponsor and availed the exemption of 18,600 on financial requirement? How was it?Is there a big chance of visa approval if we avail of it?Please share your experience to us. Or we just go for the regular/normal requirement?
    Thank you

I am getting married next month in The Philippines just after my 64th birthday but retired already, partly due to ill health. My wife will be coming to live in the UK and I am on DLA (Mobility Component only) I do not have enough savings to satisfy the normal financial requirements, so I will certainly be following the disabled route for my future wife.

As far as I know, there should be no difference between the normal and disabled routes in terms of convincing the UKBA that a relationship is genuine and that is the main determining factor. Anyway, you can always highlight the fact that you could meet the £18,600 requirement as well (I assume you do)

My thoughts would be, what would happen if the disabled concession was withdrawn after your partner arrived in the country? It would be unfair for the government to impose the normal financial requirements on a couple after one of the partners came to the UK under the disabled route. So, the chances are, that the disabled concession would continue to exist for partners who have already emigrated to the UK.

If you applied under the standard £18,600 income route but you became financially unsound later there may be no possibility that your partner could transfer to the disabled route, even if it was still in existence. So, my own recommendation would be to go the disabled route.

Thank you Howerd, that's some brilliant thoughts from you.Yes my husband to be has a private pension too and can satisfy the regular requirement. But it was the Visa assisting agency that suggest we should also present the DLA proof, it could maybe bring in more strength in our application.

You have a point here, definitely i will tell my fiance' about this, and will see how he would consider , will share to you later.
    thanks again

I suspect that from April this year that the actual money (less Income Tax) in a private pension could be used to count towards savings.

How much savings would that be needed to show?

If he had no income, I believe he would need to have savings of around £62,000.

62,000 GBP? don't know if he got that. That would even be more harder to achieve if he is not ready for that and unless the chances of getting a visa is higher .This could be too steep and would rather opt to submit the 18600 GBP pension statement :), so i guess , we will go for the regular financial requirement, but i will still discuss this with him, better to have options. Thank you for helping Howerd, will give you feed back then.

You can use income or savings, or a mixture of both to meet the normal financial requirements. Of he has a personal pension that is generating sufficient income to me the financial requirements alone, he almost certainly has enough capital in that personal pension to meet the requirements on savings alone. This does assume that money in a personal pension can be counted as 'savings' when the pension reforms come in April.

I now got your point very clearly Howerd, Thank you so much for taking time to reply on my concerns.Yes we will go for the income financial requirement, he's got more than the minimum requirement and i think that would be okay, but we will still present the DLA documents, just to give UKBA a clearer picture. Thanks again for helping .

    Thank you..
I understand your spouse is a Filipina , and yes no other option but apply in the Philippines, either in Cebu or Manila VFS..UKBA says 8-12 weeks but some got theirs as early as 20 working days, others 40, others more longer.it depends ..(maybe which side of the bed the ECO wake up to) :D

She is working in HK and we are thinking of getting married in dec this year in HK.
So apply for spouse visa in HK or Manila? which one will be easy and faster?

from what i know , application should be from the country of origin, but since it is done online, she can do it even while working in HK,(no one would know she is in another country but must have a Philippine address ) and will only be home in Manila for VFS and biometrics.
Any one from other members can also shed light on your query....

If she is ordinarily resident in Hong Kong then she applies at the British Embassy in Hong Kong.
