Just received my assessment from UK Naric and I find it a little disappointing that my 5-year engineering bachelor degree was assessed only as Ordinary Bachelor degree and not Honours Degree The Hons degree is quite important to me as I would like to pursue postgraduate study when I'm in UK. I chose the Naric Assessment compared to IELTS exam coz I am tired to sit for another exam, Life Skills, when I already have the academic IELTS exam results and yet I cannot use it for settlement visa application. And who knows next year they will change the rule again regarding English assessment. I also find Naric Assessment cheaper and no stress (no exam jitters) as it doesn't have expiration while IELTS result is only good for 2 years. Has anyone else chosen Naric assessment as well?
Don't be too disappointed at least you can state on your CV that your degree has been assessed by UK NARIC, without that some employers may have regarded your degree as worthless. I wish my wife had used UK NARIC to be exempt from the English test, we would have definitely gone for it at the same time as she had her degrees assessed if we'd have known at the time that the test would keep changing like it does. Cheer up, your education will stand you in good stead for future UK education and employment opportunities
Hi @missQT! I tried to use the UK Naric but they got back to me with this message: "Further to your recent English Language Assessment application, we regret that we are unable to provide you with this service." I think I chose the wrong assessment. What did you choose?
I'm not sure, but I think you'll have to avail their Statement of Comparability service first for them to know if they could proceed with the ELA or not...or avail both services same time.
That would make sense if its the case, you have of course got to prove that your degree was taught in English.
Hi @Timmers! Yeah, I got a certificate from the uni that the medium of instruction was English. @Dave and Aisa - I skipped that and asked for ELA hahahaha! Silly me But they have the same requirements anyway I think. I got my diploma, TOR, the certificate that English was the medium of instruction (would be tough to teach Pharma in the vernacular ) and the English translation of the diploma.
Imagine studying all your Pharma courses and memorising Filipino terms. Yikes! We did talk about how hard this would be back in uni if our course was taught in our language like Power in engineering context... kapangyarihan? Lol.
Hahahaha! Correct! And all those ana and physio terms not to mention chemical symbols. Oh and that darn calculus that I have to take thrice. All the more I won't understand if it was taught in Tagalog Math hates me and I hate it with equal passion. So I am not sure why I'm with QA now!
Hi @Timmers, thank you for the nice words, exactly what my fiancé said to me. Hi @firew0myn, I availed Statement of Comparability and ELA at the same time in one payment, as they are both needed for settlement visa, they delivered the Comparability statement first then they sent the ELA. I wonder why they delivered separately since I only paid one courier fee, my fiancé said maybe for security reason.
Thanks @missQT! I will make use of this service once I'm in the UK. Right now, my IELTS is still valid for the first FLR application.
Hi! I'm based in the UK as well. SOOO anxious about getting my UK NARIC statement. I have a feeling I'll get an ordinary degree as well, which means that I'll have to study for a few more years before getting my teaching license in Scotland. In the PH, I finished with a BA in Speech Comm and a PostGrad Cert in Secondary Education. Crossing my fingers! But thanks for this, it's given me a much clearer idea of where I (could) stand.
