Just booked the appointment for my wife's settlement visa in Manila.
At first I tried to book a standard appointment only to get a message that no appointments were available but after I changed the appointment to include the premium lounge there were plenty of appointments even at short notice...
    Anyone else found this?

I could have been a bit scary, if I hadn't intended to book the premium lounge I wouldn't have found the appointments that were available.
Also the section about commercial partner is where you pay the extra for the lounge instead of going directly to the VFS website.

are you applying for the faster priority service ?

Yes we will put plan to pay the priority bit in cash while we attend.
I made a silly mistake on the first application which lead to us cancelling it and re-applying. I just didn't want to leave more cash to chance if I have to cancel this second application haha.
I am only semi-confident that I will get a full refund...although we complied fully.

i have cynical thoughts that standard applications are deliberately shelved for a while to encourage other applicants to pay for priority treatment.

    Likewise bigmac.
I have read here that people have been applying for the standard visa and have got appointments.

The strange thing, our appointment is just over two weeks time and virtually every appointment on every day was available...money making :(

There is no indication to try the lounge service. If I had taken it at face value maybe I would have tried to book months in advance.

I did the same with my wife, when tried standard appointment there was none for 2 weeks, which was too late,so pressed the VIP and came up straight away for next day,so just paided the 2500 for VIP,just think of getting more money from you.

The extra cost for priority is just under 3,000 pesos and it includes return of your documents by courier.
