    Hi All,

I am planning on taking my family to the UK for a visit this Xmas, however I am a little worried on the requirements for my son.

His mum and I have never married and he doesn't have a UK birth certificate or ever been registered with the UK authorities. ( long complicated story)

My question is should I be applying for a visit visa for him? I seen some clause about right of abode in the UK, but this could take up to 6 months to sort out

We currently all live in Thailand ( I am working here and the family has dependant visa's here , kids in International school so I am not worried about the other requirements for the family, just my son

Typical UK, never make things clear , when all you want to do is go for a holiday

Yes he will need a visit Visa and if your partner too if she is not a British Passport holder. Usual rules apply - must have compelling reasons to leave the UK and not overstay and so on.

You can apply for a British Passport for your son provided you can prove that you and his mum were together when he was conceived and that your name appears on his local birth records. You should apply for this first - before the Consular Record of Birth ("British Birt Certificate") - otherwise you will delay the issuance of the Passport.
