Some good and valid points raised in the article, PayPal is a service that I have never used.

I have used Paypal for years. And frequently.

Paypal has its own protection which does seem to work.

I don't have any credit cards, only debit cards.

I have my Quidco cashback account linked to Paypal, that works quite well :D

Just by chance I have just recently complained to PayPal that an order I paid for using them was not delivered. I got very good attention from PayPal. They chased the supplier who replied to me within a couple of hours, where previously they had ignored my email.

The Item was delivered a couple of days ago (following a call from the delivery driver to a bar in the town where I was having coffee) and yesterday I had an email from PayPal saying they had recovered my payment from the retailer and will credit it to me.

I now have to tell PayPal I have the item.

The order came to just £10 and I had paid using my Debit Card.

Remember that the protection you get on purchases with your UK credit card also applies to purchases made overseas - be that on a foreign website or if you visit a foreign land. You don't get the same protection with a UK debit card.

If you do use a UK credit card for an overseas purchase, be sure to use one that does not 'load' the exchange rate and always pay in the local currency from whatever country your purchase is made. I use an Aqua Credit Card as it also provides free Noddle alerts - invaluable if you are travelling overseas a lot. The Aqua Card does have high interest rates though, so be sure to pay off each month, by direct debit, to avoid the interest charges...
