Hm Although fiancee has no legal status I can understand your puzzlement since that is one of the drop down choices.

I wouldn't be so quick to say it should be 'divorced' rather than 'fiancee'. To be safe I might ring the helpline on that one. There must be a good reason why they have chosen to put 'fiancee' in there. If the choices were married / single it would be a no brainer but indeed 'divorced' is not a legal status either. The only legally recognized marital status are single and married. Once you are divorced, you are single. If you are engaged to be married, you are still single. I Divorced / fiancee or whatever are incidental. Sadly people who write these forms are not always the brightest.

I might even be tempted to say that 'fiancee' would be a better fit in an immigration context since this question might be seeking to clarify what sort of visa you are after.

    I would tread carefully.

I'm sorry I seem to have gotten an 'agree' on my old draft which didn't contain this caveat.

I agree with @ChoiAndJohn. If she was not coming to the UK to be with a partner/get married then she would put 'divorced', but she is coming here as a fiancée.

    Hi bigmac,

I found a link before and bookmarked for reference. I haven't tried to contact them yet so I don't know if this works. There's also a link to click if you are in the UK.

I couldn't post the link from my phone but if you Google contact UK visas and immigration from outside the UK you get a. Gov website. Use that. Edit: see link above. You have to pay to use it though but better safe..

Hi @bigmac, what did your wife put in her application form? Is it Divorced or Fiancée? I'm annulled too.

Put divorced/annulled if there is room on the form, remember you are applying for a UK visa so having the marriage annulled is the equivalent of divorced.

My wife had her marriage annulled and I'm pretty sure we would have put divorced, but like bigmac it was a couple of years ago.
