I use them for different things.

I use Facebook for chatting with friends spread over different continents and staying in touch with Filipino organisations, like Pro-RH and Filipino Freethinkers, that I like.

I use Twitter for keeping in touch with Chinese politics

For what its worth, my Twitter account was hacked two days ago but my Facebook account has not yet been hacked.

I also don't use any social networking sites, my mobile phone is my social networker!

Elsa uses FB a lot as she keeps in touch with her family over in Tacloban, however, whats worrying is that for the last 4 days, someone has tried to hack her account. However, the person trying to hack is a bit clueless to say the least - they keep doing a password reset request, of which goes to her email address, and she's had 5 of these password reset requests, despite never requesting one.

If you do use Facebook, use a strong password, and keep that password different from your email address password. Once your email address is hacked, it could get very messy indeed. Yahoo is also another site that seems to have a lot of trouble lately - I know quite a few people who have had their yahoo.co.uk email hacked.

HSBC's internet banking uses four factor authentication in both the Philippines and UK although the mechanisms differ slightly. In the UK, the bank issues customers with a credit card-size device that looks like a calculator which is used to generate a one-shot unique number but only after keying-in a PIN code. These devices are tied to a single customer so I can not use another customer's device to access my account.

No British Filipino is an asynchronous bulletin board.

I've used that little device quite a few times, makes you feel very confident that all is safe and secure regarding the transactions you perform through it.

I was going to reply to your post Rob but I don't know what asynchronous means and I can't pronounce it either

    Ditto

They both just seem like a girly thing to me, if you want to keep in touch with friends and so on then there are multiple forms of communications to choose from without using Facebook and Twitter.

I Joined FB in 2007 and deleted it 2014. the reason was that i was wasting to much time on FB. Im still on Twitter which i use only to check news and financial markets.
