My wife has finally applied for a spouse visa, and was just wondering if my employer will be contacted during the process to check out my employment situation.

If you have provided all the necessary employment details and they are originals, then under normal circumstances they wouldn't normally contact your employer. I guess there must be a small percentage of spot checking but the ECO will be allocated a certain amount of time on each application so it would be infrequent.

It is very unlikely in my opinion that the UKVI would contact your employer, it is possible however, I know when you apply for the FLR you sign to give the UKVI the authority to carry out any checks.

Yup....... Sneaky, yes, but everything is available to them that way.
Employers could be thought to be overly sympatetic and embellish figures with creative accounting..

Strangely we had to fill out a consent form to enable the government to see if I had paid my taxes in full, before they will issue British Citizenship to my wife.
