Definitively a place to avoid if you drive for a living............:erm:

How sad that civilians have to do the job of the police...
Only, probably, with more gusto and venom.....:frust:

It is too sad for the rant section...........:drama:

I am not so sure, the rot started years ago, when Maggie during a blond moment, decided to do away with the police houses, situated in rural places and villages...
from then on, the cops started depending more and more on cars to do their rounds thus leading to a rise in crime, as PC plod wasn't there to give the unruly kids a clip around the ears before taking them to their parents for more, anymore...
This dependency was exacerbated by the labour lot by allowing even more expensive cars being ordered by the various police farces to the detriment of law and order, whereas it came to the point the car driver/owner was criminalized for various motoring offences which previously had been a civil matter. All in the name of revenue collection....
Another thing which was over the top, was the inordinate amount time the officers had to spend filling all sorts of forms, from gender equality to a simple arrest or stop and search.... or even accompany offenders to an ATM............. For payment of on the spot fines....

Now that there isn't any money in the kitty for real, the police, instead of getting rid of "managers", cutting down on expensive patrol cars, and get real coppers back on the beat on foot, and not looking like UDF paramilitaries.. They tend to employ civilians, and exposing them to all sorts of dangers and abuse from legitimately rabid motorists...

While the cops, sit in their warm, air conditioned, leather seated posh cars, doing danger assessment reports on going out of said car to take a leak...

    Only in Britain....

I was caught doing 96mph on the M4 at about 6am 2 years ago by a camera van on a bridge. hardly anyone else on the road.
These cameras cause more problems than they solve as I now have always got one eye on the road and the other looking for cameras.
On the alternate A road to Exeter its a hotbed for police hiding behind road signs or bends in the road with cameras in hand, or it used to be.

It was much better when we had the traffic cops on motorbikes, cameras dont catch the uninsured, unregisterd , drunks or drugged

You didn't get a ban? Over 90 odd and it's usually a court appearance :erm:

I do tend to agree with your point about more traffic cops.

here here.... i am always surprised to see a bobbie out on his/her beat with a PCSO.. it is always a PCSO going about... and I doubt if they can even defend themselves... the PCSO's assigned in our are are 2 women... and the yobs mostly hanging about at the corner streets are big burly men... how can they tell them off if they have to? they should be armed with something.. a tear gas or pepper spray perhaps...

I did reply to this yesterday but for some reason my answer never appeared?

Oss, it was all by post and I was fined and received 3 points.

I thought you have to be over twice the road speed limit or over 100mph to receive a ban, something
that happened to my wife on on a stretch of the North Circular when they reduced the speed to 30mph
in preparation for road works and she was clocked at 64mph.She was banned for a week but no points awarded.

The last time I got 3 points is on the M4 J41 near Port Talbot, days after I was caught they removed the camera as it was causing congestion (and near accidents as drivers slowed down) at a busy motorway junction, but hey, the points and £60 fine stayed. Proof that these cameras are NOT about safety, but about making money only. I'm all for cameras where they are really needed, but not the motorway where these cameras have the potential to cause accidents rather than prevent them.

As I drive a van for a living, I know all the places where the local mobile speed camera will be parked, and he's always chooses the same place, same time every week.

Are the latest sat navs capable of picking up mibile speed cameras or is it a case of by the time a sat nav
picks up the signal you have already been observed ?

I use a satnav and its pre-programmed with static and some mobile camera locations (luckily in Ceredigion there are NO static cameras, just the one mobile van and the occassional handheld device manned by Mr Constable). Only problem is the maps are 18 months out of date and Garmin want £79 to update to latest version. Not likely. You can of course buy "devices" that alert you to speed cameras....
