When I lived in Japan we had earthquake tremors on an almost weekly basis.
Any earthquake is a scary and unsettling event when you feel it. Plenty of ex-pats would tell me you'll get used to it.
To be honest, that's BS no-one really gets used to it. All of my Japanese friends would say the same. There's a difference between getting used to it and accepting that it's going to happen.

Japan is very unfortunately located on a very unstable point of the earth's crust as it sits directly on top of three
plates (Pacific, Eurasion and Phillipine Plate's). These are positioned so that when one plate moves the other two get pushed up or down

Where we lived in Yokohama, most of the daily earthquakes were just not big enough to be physically felt, but there are plenty that do get felt and that's when you notice everyone just holding their breath and thinking how to prepared for whatever might happen next. Everyone is mentally attuned to quakes in Japan.

I've experienced earthquakes in many parts of the world, including the 1989 San Francisco earthquake ( 6.9 ) and the Kobe earthquake of 1995 (7.2).

Luckily I've never experience one in the Philippines, and hope I never do. I have no idea what kind of quakes they get, but I can say that no-one ever gets used to them and everyone is scared.

Glad to know you had no mishaps and really hope everything settles down soon.

BTW, I've always had a feeling that most of the houses there would do rather well considering the concrete beam construction and amount of rebar they use.

Yeah Alan glad everything is ok.

I experienced a tiny tiny earthquake in Manila about 3.something in 2006 when we were on the 20th floor in our condo, the whole building swayed back and forth but the quake lasted literally only about 3 seconds but yes it was scary for a moment.

The various institutes in the Phils are pretty convinced that a big one around 6 or 7 in Manila would be catastrophic because the building materials are so often sub standard because of the bribes and corruption and people trying to skim extra profit.

It's something that is a constant worry to me, the place we live in is nice but it's infested with ants as well and I am not convinced it's structurally very sound at all.

BFP to bring truckloads of potable water to quake-hit areas

The Bureau of Fire Protection will bring at least 10 truckloads of potable water to areas in the Visayas devastated by a magnitude-6.9 quake last Monday.

Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo issued the directive amid reports that residents in some areas have no drinking water, or their sources of water were contaminated.

A news release on the Official Gazette website said Robredo ordered BFP head Chief Superintendent Samuel Perez to bring at least 10 fire trucks with potable water to the hardest-hit area of Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental.

“Guihulngan is currently in a very sad state. Walang pagkukunan ng tubig at lahat ng water system and electricity nila ngayon ay down. The residents badly need potable water and we are doing all we can to deliver it to them ASAP,” Perez said.

He added the situation is similar in Bacolod City where the local disaster risk reduction management councils have reported that all water coming from their natural water springs are tainted with mud.

Robredo also ordered the BFP chiefs of Escalante, Cadiz and Bacolod Cities in Negros Occidental, which have two fire trucks each, to join the effort.
He cited reports that areas in Guihulngan (Negros Oriental) and Bacolod (Negros Occidental) have no potable water, or their water sourcesare emitting mud.
Robredo had accompanied President Benigno Aquino III to Negros Oriental to assess the situation and provide assistance to the victims.

    Coordination with LGUs, fire volunteers

Robredo directed the BFP regional officers in Western and Central Visayas to coordinate their efforts with the local disaster management councils.
For his part, Perez ordered his men in those regions to coordinate with the local fire volunteers in Negros Oriental, such as the Amity and Chinese volunteers

I watched some news footage on TFC
Some areas have really suffered terrible damage to life and property.
    Clean water is absolutely key.
Next must be getting power restored to those that have none.

There was a small earthquake here in Valencia Bukidnon yesterday about 5am local time. I was fast asleep at the time but found out later that evening. Not good news considering there is a volcano nearby:(

Musuan has been quiet for a long time mate I would not worry, magma quake swarms are unlikely but would be very noticeable if they were happening not sure you would sleep though it, I'm glad I was awake for the very small quake I experienced some years back :)
