I was reading today of three Judges in the UK losing their jobs because they were caught viewing porn on their official computers.

We are all aware that people view porn on the internet but why on earth would people like this take the risk of viewing it on a computer at work?

They deserve to be sacked for being so stupid :)

To be fair, it doesn't specifically say they were doing it at work. Just using the work accounts. So may have been at home and out of hours.

If so, then seems a bit harsh.

Of course, if it was during a trial while evidence was being given then fair enough!

It does say that they were at work, it says if they were at home then there would not be a problem. These Judges should be seen to be whiter than white, in public at least.

Terrible judgement on their behalf if you pardon the pun :)

Just checked the article again and it does say they were using their judicial IT accounts, but it doesn't say they were actually at work so it could have been in their spare time for all we know.

They are certainly going to have spare time now that's for sure, even in my last job I would never use my company laptop for viewing anything naughty because I knew the IT Department could have picked up on it. I didn't look for any jobs on it either, used it just for official use as I knew big brother was watching me so to speak, I thought that would have been obvious to Judges too. Any computer connected to a network is obviously open to scrutiny by the IT Administrator.

The fun of being in the IT department and seeing what employees get up to ;)

I'm 100% sure that someone who manages a network cannot resist looking at what the others have been perusing on the internet, its human nature after all.

Maybe @oss can tell us a funny story or two related to this subject.

It is human nature and I guess most IT staff just laugh amongst colleagues on what someone has been perusing. I have only been in one company doing IT so I can't say too much, I may implicate myself :D

Its about 12 years ago now but I was on a rig with a small crew of personnel and we all had access to the internet for business purposes, through the client oil company, but used generic logon usernames and passwords. At the end of the trip, our client (a large oil company ) approached our bosses and complained about the work quality and presented my boss with a list of website accesses by our team over the course of the 2 weeks and followed it up by saying "how could they have been doing any work if they had been on the internet all the time"?. My boss read me some of the examples and eventually got to Joe Calzaghe's Top Ten Knockouts. At that point we knew one of the culprits as we had a boxer on the crew.
