I look back on my mod years in Brighton with a soft glow in my heart and a tinge of rebellion. Happy days, being chased by Brightons finest. Luckily I somehow managed to avoid being arrested or cornered by a gang of rockers. Can't say the same for several mates at the time.

Fabulous pic Dave - so evocative. You may have been a bit of a scallywag on occasion but you are part of British social history and no doubt stored up a fair few memories along the way.

My only dalliance with motorbikes was a wheezy 175 CZ trail bike. Slowed down to about 50 in a headwind but I liked the quirky old-fashioned styling. Almost totalled it - and myself - when I careered into the back of a Transit at traffic lights in wet weather. The drum brakes were crap and the eastern European knobbly tyres were more plastic than rubber - not good when the heaven's opened! :poop::eek:

A lot of my family still live in Brighton and I always visit when I'm home. Some years ago I tried to retrace some of my old haunts, Starlight Rooms, Dr Brighton's, Scandinavian Coffee Bar and several others. Sadly but not unsurprisingly, all gone. Even my old school, Brighton Hove & Sussex Grammar School for Boys is no longer. Quadrophenia....... Hmm Happy Days

Never works does it, trying to retrace your steps and re-kindling the good times of the past, I'm a firm believer in the young having a good time while they are young, responsibilities once accepted never leave you.

There is a lot to be said for the saying "young free and single."

    Filipinos can be racists too.

I don't understand why a lot of Filipinos I know look down on Indians and Blacks but look up to Whites/Anglos.

Then when we are the ones receiving flak, we suddenly go haywire.

It's one of the reasons why I don't like a lot of the Filipinos I know. We are already here in a first-world, modern country, and yet we still bring in our old, ugly racists views.

I saw the Who do Quadrophenia at the MEN with Billy Idol. Great gig with Moon's son on drums I think. It was only then that I knew what Quadrophenia meant.

Interesting post. My little one is 5 and in her first year at school. She is the only Asian in her class. There are a small number of Eastern Europeans in her class. She is not conspicuously Asian looking despite being half Filipino. I am hoping that as time goes by she manages to avoid the kind of treatment you refer to in your post.

Her best friend’s parents are from Eastern Europe.

I think it's not really looking down. If a fil has been to other countries, work/ed with or live/d with indians or even other race may it be white or not, then there is a basis. For most indians, they are hygienically poor with ratio 9:10. I think it's bcoz of their smell that's why you say we are looking down on them. I don't like that side of them but I look up on them when it comes to IT knowledge. You have to hear yet a fil saying not so good things about the hygiene of white people (americans, europeans).
