So are all the British expats in Spain going to repatriate to the UK? Are British expats in the Philippines intending to return to the UK? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expatriate I don't think your interpretation of that term is the generally accepted one.
It appears that the ambiguity in the law is confusing to us all. I think I'll write to PhilHealth and ask them for clarification. On the assumption that they intend to include everyone of Filipino birth, they're going to have to come and knock on the door here in the UK and ask for their contributions because if they think we're going to pay for a service that we would never use, to the tune of 5% of income here, they'd better think again. And holidays would be taken somewhere other than the Philippines. Melody has no family members with whom she is in touch, or has spoken with for the past 7 years at least. They aren't dependent on her for income or health cover. No reason for her to pay, other than it being some gigantically expensive exit fee.
This opening post was a trickier question than I first thought. My wife owns a little bit of land but I am not sure she is too bothered if she loses her rights to it and it ends up in the hands of other members of her family. But interesting to note about the Balikbayan privelidges, that I nor she seemed to be aware of. She has never sought to regain Philippine citizenship.
Your throwing in red herrings! In this instance my understanding is if a Filipino expat was returning to the Philippines he would have to sort out his Philhealth payments
as i understand citizenship;...my wife has to apply for ILR next year, after that--she can choose to apply for british citizenship--if she wants to. if she does--does she have to formally renounce phili citizenship as part of the process? if not--how will the phili authorities ever find out--unless she tells them ?
I feel pretty clear on this now but others may disagree with how I see it. It is designed for Filipino residents in the Philippines And OFWs who are in temporary employment overseas. And Expats who after a period of living away from the Philippines are returning It is not applicable for Filipinos who are overseas as settlement residents or those on the settlement visa journey(
Mine did as soon as she became a UK / British citizen. At that point her Filipino passport became invalid and has since expired in any case. There was a member a long time ago who said the same thing i.e. how would the Philippine authorities know and the answer was unclear but I have witnessed a number of Filipina’s regaining their citizenship at an embassy “roadshow”, but Mrs Ash has never bothered to reapply for dual nationality. http://www.british-filipino.com/ind...pine-consular-outreach-2015.10368/#post-79785
It automatically became invalid at that point by virtue of the fact that she acquired British citizenship. She simultaneously lost Philippine citizenship at that point. There was a female member on here that swore that she could still trot in and out of the Philippines on her Filipino passport after acquiring UK citizenship and although the answer was unclear, many doubted that it was possible and assumed it was illegal (until reaquisition of Philippine citizenship).
The numpties let their certificate expire, they are using letsencrypt for a cheap way to get a certificate, this just means that they are trying to run on https but the encryption certificate has expired in this case on the 22nd of April. This is the link https://londonpe.dfa.gov.ph/consular-matters/retention-reacquisition-of-philippine-citizenship you have to click Advanced and choose to proceed, I am certain there is "no man in the middle attack" here it is just the usual Embassy site. I would not normally recommend proceeding to a site that claims to be running https but it should be safe this time. You will note that google says we are not secure either but we are running under http not https so there is no challenge as we don't claim to operate an encrypted pipe.
Possibly. It would be interesting to see if someone could successfully re-enter the Philippines on a theoretically invalid Filipino passport. Mrs Ash’s Filipino passport expired last year. There are no marks or stamps to indicate it is invalid until that point. However presumably if she had tried to renew it (having acquired UK citizenship) then the application would get turned down....
No, you don't renounce Filipino citizenship as part of the process. That's the simple answer.. You do, though, supposedly have to swear an oath at the embassy afterwars in order to retain it. How will they find out? Who knows? It's as unclear and shambolic as everything they do there. The same with this nonsense Philhealth thing. Will they formally notify Filipinos here that they need to pay this? No. They'll just spring it on them at the airport, along with their favourite phrase "we have an atm sir". And then what? They let you get on the plane, your cash ends up in someone's pocket and you get no more health cover for you or your family than you had before. That's my guess anyway.
