I noticed that a user tonight was browsing this thread and I miss Stu, his opening post had some great observations, I don't agree with all of them but it was a great post, so I am giving it a bump!

Better class of curry in bombay than anywhere in the PI,though I have to admit the worst curry I ever had was in India, and the best was in East London.

I can safely deduct that you may have not visited the "Curry mile" in Birmingham yet...

Several of my colleagues do swear that they experienced the best of their life.. Personally, I visited 2 establishments there, and I found them to be lacking. Especially hygiene.

One of the best curries I ever had, was a Katsu Chicken with sticky rice and a small side of kimchi in a Korean joint, a few years ago, on my first trip to Cebu, at Changi Airport. On the way back, I decided for more, but it was not on the menu. On the bright side, chances are I could have been disappointed...:(

i'm not really keen on indian curry joints here--usually rice and slop with very little meat--but loads of bread.

Some of the best were in Glasgow in my opinion.

I've recently done a Google maps tour of my home town and most of the great Indian restaurants of the 1970s and 1980s are long gone, even the new ones that replaced them have come and gone there are few left apart from the Raja and the Multan and the Raja switched to being a takeaway 30 years ago, fantastic flavours but dubious hygiene :)

I've still to try the Bombay in Makati, I would like to do that sometime and I would also like to find an Indian grocer in Metro Manila somewhere so I can get proper spices out there SM and the likes have a very limited selection.

The sad thing is that a lot of Indian and Chinese restaurants just stopped trying, the food degenerated to the lowest common denominator that would make them money in order words they let the standard of cooking drop to the level expected by the average customer.

I got good enough at making my own Indian food that I would rarely if ever spend money in a UK Indian restaurant ever again.

Unfortunately for me both Mrs Ash and the 8 yo do not like curry. So it is something I rarely get to eat these days. But she likes curry sauce on her fish and chips.

I had some lads down here a number of years ago from a particularly rough housing estate in sunderland. It was one of their birthdays so I took them to a particularly nice Chinese restaurant, I actually told them order whatever they wanted. One of them seemed to be having trouble with the menu so I asked was everything OK? He couldn't find "Chips with curry sauce" :D there were lobsters and fish in glass tanks, the place is a favorite with Chinese patrons, its not cheap, the waiter in fairness actually got him chips and curry sauce
