visited philippines in december and january and as it fell on our wedding anniversary decided to treat the wife at the named hotel , executive beach front room ,just the thing we needed , before jetting back to manila,

although we enjoyed beautiful bohol , this hotel dosnt get my vote of approval , dirty room ,room mates in the shape of cockroaches and other insects and very poor service from the staff , and this place was over 100 pounds per night,

do your research if your thinking of booking this one guys, glad we only booked in for a few days

Damn sounds like Bohol is getting expensive now too :( one place I would really like to visit.

You're never going to escape the room mates over there even in the high end hotels but the staff can make it more bearable, you are right if they don't then it's a place to avoid.

One hundred quid a night is way over the budget I want to pay, we used to get great rooms for 2000 peso a night and stunning rooms for 3000 peso a night at a time when that was 20 quid and 30 quid respectively.

yes i know wat your saying oss, about rooms and prices, but with it being our anniversary, the executive beach front sounded good, but i dont expect to go looking for the staff to have the room cleaned at the price we payed, and when they did clean it it was in and out in 2 mins quick wipe over, also the food prices on the beach front were well over priced ,for instance 5 big prawns at 100 peso each, and a tilapia fish 3000 peso for 1, seems there taking advantage of the visitors, but all that will do is put people off returning,

Yes I agree entirely I've had better service than that in the cheap places, what you had sounds atrocious. :(

Good god 50 quid for a fish !!!!!! Ana's nanay cooks a superb Tilapia for about 200 peso :D

Still depressing to hear that it costs that much there, I had friends who went to Bohol in 2010 and it was not that bad, these are friends that have been visiting the Phils since the mid 90's so they know what is good value and they thought Bohol was pretty good value all round.

Hello! When we (hubby and me) have planned to visit a place we always research it in travel finders it can really help you! There was a time of planning to visit Bohol, one of the resorts they pushed was alona but when we researched it, we found out that it was one of the ****tiest beach resort in bohol excuse my word but I am just saying the truth so better be more informative before going to such place than nothing!
    hope this can help you!

the best beach on panglao is still bbc and dumaluan.. quietest beach we go to on weekends is amorella..i prefer this to about anything else on the island..best places to eat are a french restaurant called elephant blue and just across the road the powder keg which is run by paul ,a resident yank..dont eat on the beach as it is a well documented rip off and the fish is
    not always fresh..

Anyone been to Panglao recently ?

We're there in December, so any hotel recommendations would be welcome (even the one's to avoid ! ).
Looking in the £40-£60 per night range.... as long as clean, tidy and friendly.

I'm assuming that trips to the Chocolate Hills, Loboc River should be easy to book locally, rather than from here ?

    Thanks in advance

I stayed at Bohol beach club, but that was ten years ago, pricy then.

Not stayed at this one, but must be cheaper, kaylaa.com - Home
looks like the links not working, just google it.

Kaylaa is nice and we used to go up there for the booze, blues and burgers..
Problem is it 45 mins from Tagbilaran and over an hour to Alona or the Tawala side of Panglao island..
Check out my mates place if you like... www.bingagsportsbar.com
Not on the beach but daily trips in the van to almost anywhere can be arranged..

For now,Id suggest the LOST HORIZON on Alona beach.. Very easy to arrange the loboc and C/H tour from here.. Should cost around 3,500PHP.

Just got back after some 3 weeks in the Philippines.

For the Bohol section, in the end we stayed at Harmony at Panglao..... cost around 2,800p per night with breakfast thrown in.

    http://harmonyhotelsite.com/

    I would happily recommend it.

Excellent. Were the chocolate hills do-able from Panglao?

    John,

    Yes, very much so.
Either sign up with an organised tour (usually 4-8 in minibus) or negotiate a driver for the day (about 1,700-2,000p).
The driver will do all the tourist stops, with you just paying the relevant entrance fees.
    The itinery will usually include:
The Blood Pact monument, the Man-made Forest, the Chocolate Hills, some butterfly sanctuary, the Tarsier refuge, and a trip on the river (with lunch).

We left about 8.30am and returned about 4.30pm

That is very very cheap.. I dont know anyone with a decent van that would do a trip like that for less than 3K...
    Just not worth it.

Do you happen to know the drivers cell number? I think I can put a lot of work his way.
    Cheers!

When I visited Cavite last year, on both occasions we used a local driver and van (minibus) and he charged us 2500 a day plus petrol. And on our wedding day(s) we used 2, at the same rate. That was Cavite though.

    That was for all day.

Yes,my bro in law has a New Toyota Hiace in Imus Cavite.. He charges the same.
You see if you are paying for the petrol then it makes it worthwhile for the owner..
The Bohol trip consumes around 1000 Pesos in diesel..
One thing that may sometimes bring the cost down a little in Bohol is the fact that the driver gets 50 pesos cash per passenger from the loboc river tour people... plus free food.
