Hello, recently joined up and this is my first post, just looking for some advice and information. My Son is British and my Daughter in law is Filipino, they are living in the Philippines and have a family. I would like to send them Balikbayan boxes but as I am British would I be allowed to or can only Filipino nationals send them, could my Daughter in law arrange for me to send them on her behalf. Thanks for any advice it would be appreciated.
    Regards, Ron

To be on the safe side, I would address it to the daughter in law, using the maiden name...

A couple of questions guys, are boxes sent by ship or air and how long do they take to arrive, and how do I find a shipper in Scotland, do they supply the Balikbayan boxes.

By sea. Normally taking about 10 weeks.

Google search is your friend, as to shippers near to you sir. :like:

We use a company called Forex on Merseyside not sure if they cover Scotland, as has been suggested Google is your friend. It goes by sea
Forex supply 3 different size boxes and you are charged by box size not weight.
You can track your box although the tracking can be vague!
Normally takes 10 to 12 weeks however with the issues currently in the Red Sea would expect transit times to be longer as a lot of shipping is now going round the long way south of African continent

Footnote all boxes should be wrapped fully in good quality shrink wrap

Why would there be a need to spray the box with pesticides, never done that yet!
However when the box arrives in the Philippines the daughter gives the clingfilm a good wipe over before removing it, thou never know what’s in other peoples boxes.

Thanks I did find shippers on Google so going to contact a couple to find out their rates. 12 weeks shipping time seems reasonable but could it really take up to 3 months? That would be for awkward for planning Christmas or birthday boxes.

Christmas arrival, we plan to send ours early September, others are adhoc earlier in the year but yes allow 10-12 weeks and put a further 3 weeks on at present (Red Sea)
Avoid companies who have weight restrictions tariffs

I would like to ask, when shipping Balikbayan boxes will I be required to fill in a Customs declaration form including the commodity codes for each item, thanks again for all the helpful advice.
    Kind regards,
    Ron

    'Mixed used household goods'.

That's it. Worked for me ....during the past 20+ years. (Check with the shipper anyway).

I would recommend that anything vulnerable to water damage, be packed within a strong watertight plastic bag, knotted at the top. You never know where some of these boxes are to be left standing around.
Any bed linen, towels, clothing, etc, can be used to wrap/cushion delicate items.

    Moneysaving tip:
Do some shopping at your local (UK) charity shops.
Some amazing bargains in top quality used items of all kinds in those little goldmines.
I was also glad I sent over quite a few curtains/drapes, and UK-style (safe, fused) electrical extension leads and adaptors. Take up little space, but so useful.

I cover the entire box with brown packing tape, and if sending sharp metal items (like my folding work bench) also line it with thin plywood, or MDF.
