Thanks for that tip, so what happens with Balikbayan boxes and Customs. When I send boxes with DHL or UPS sometimes they go through Customs ok but other times boxes with similar contents get hit with very expensive import tariffs. I sent two UPS boxes out at Christmas and my Son had to pay £115 tariff.

    Regards,

Yes they go through customs, tend to be stuck there about a week from the transit tracking that we've seen, we send normally 2 per year and had no issues over the last 5/6 years. Sister in Law sends one a year again no issues.

Anyone can send deliveries via UPS to the Philippines.

Balikbayan boxes can only be sent by eligible Filipinos so the boxes have exemptions on custom duties when they arrive. The declaration form you give the courier has sections specifically to add Filipino passport details of the sender. I don't know how thoroughly Filipino Customs scrutinise the sender details. I don't think a sole UK based citizen sending his internet romance 2 boxes full of corned beef and Matalan clothes is within the spirit of the rules, but chances are he would get away with it. UK citizens with family by marriage in the Philippines may be more likely to fall under eligibility criteria.

My UK-born son, who has dual nationality (Fil/Brit) sends them to me, but addressed to my wife here, so should be no issue there .

Could I use the passport details of my Filipino daughter in law on the customs declaration form if I am sending the box to her address? I don’t want her to end up having to pay import duties.
