Thanks for the "heads up" on this.

I signed up yesterday and uploaded my ID - awaiting a reply.

I previously used Suremoney in UK so I will do a comparison.

Azimo founder says "have you noticed that Paypal is regulated in Luxemburg and Azimo is regulated by British FSA". How misleading to suggest that a start-up is safer than Paypal. Azimo is not itself regulated by FSA. According to its website, they are an agent for a company regulated by the FSA. I hear Azimo should be operating under the name of its regulated principal. Call FSA on 0845 606 1234

    Hi,

I am happy that you get to the conclusion that we are safer than than Paypal, which I don't deny or agree as we using same security same world class security standards so comparison won't give much :)

However I strongly deny accusation about misleading, as we saying clearly on our website:

Azimo Ltd is a registered agent (FSA reference 573355) providing payment services on behalf of FSA Authorised Payment Institution: LCC Trans Sending Limited FSA Number 504482

And every as agent we are also regulated by FSA, so you can call them to verify that (thats what they are for!)

Azimo operates as Small Payment Institution you can check our status here:

I've just had a look on the Suremoney web site.........

3 Easy Steps to Remit Money:
    1. Call SureMoney to relay the details of your remittance instructions.
    2. Transfer/deposit the remittance amount together with the service fee to Sure Money's Barclays Bank PLC account.
    3. Email or phone-in to confirm deposit or transfer.

To me that's not easy....I to having a problem's getting money over to Phil it cost me £17.00 (cost) a go and that's with my own bank HSBC and when you add that up over the years (safe yes) but its a lot of money, anyone got a better way..!

I've used Azimo 3 times now, logging in using my Facebook ID and my wifes details are already saved so within a few clicks I am submitting my order and keying in my card details. I like that!

Thankfully, at the moment the peso is over 67 pesos to the (£) pound so the transfers look nicer.

As with all money remits (bank transfer, Western Union, World Remit or Azimo) there is always a loss on how much is listed on XE.com to the price you get your pesos for. One thing I did notice last night was that Azimo gave better pesos to the pound than World Remit but also with less of a fee (a set £5 admin fee), so in terms of pricing Azimo beats the competition. The only issue I know some people have is that Azimo is a new start up and people always shy away from new companies for risk of losing money, the same is true of World Remit as I was the first person on this site to use them and now I know a few people use them - trust takes time.

I just think we are pretty lucky now after how the UK lost Xoom usage to now have two viable and pretty cheap options for sending money!

I am with PayPal have been for years and we did try them but wife had problem's getting the money on her side and she didn't know how to send it back to me, so i had to phone PayPal told them that wife can't work out how to send money back (this went on for about an hour......) can I do it for her, no no was the answer, in the end I told if I can't do it in my wife account over the internet for her I will end my account with them, then they let me do it, but as anyone knows who have had a PayPal account it takes a long long time (too long) to have your money back from them. And yes I know that's how they make they money..!
Some with HSBC when ask over phone if I could open up an account for my wife they said yes......after giving all the info I was told (again about an hour) on a mobile phone ....they told me to wait for someone in another office, and was told that they was an able to do it. so next time was in my bank I ask there, again was told yes but my wife has to sign paper's there, I told wife is in Phil 7000 miles away so will not be able to...! "O then we can't do it sorry" so next time am out in Phil going to go to HSBC to see if I can open account for wife, it would make my life more easy, and save a lot of money. I did by the way open up a bank account for my wife when I was out there, but that's with the bank of the Philippines. it will need to work from bank to bank or over the internet if Azimo going to work for me.

Hi at azimo you got 3 ways to receive money in Phl:

    - Direct to Phl. Bank Account
    - Cash Pickup
    - Mobile Top-up (local prepaid phone)

And you can found your transaction:
    - Using debit card
    - Using Online banking (we give you account number with special code to set as transaction title)
    - Paying in cash in barclays branch and adding reference number

In practice most of transaction are being sent to PHL within 1-3 hours, and then are being send straight from there.
the only funny thing about phl is time difference and money can only be send during phl office hours.
So usually is either same day or early next day.

Thank you for that, I will look into it, I have internet banking so that would be better for me.
One question, is it better to send in GBP or PHP.

Had a look at the site, it seems that my wife can only receive the money in PHP or USD and not as my bank sends it in GBP.
Wife tells me to send it in GBP its better that way...! is this so..?

I am afraid no one offers (apart of some banks) GBP to GBP transfer to PHL.

With azimo you can pay into PHP or USD
    Here is page about
Sending Money to Philippines with Azimo

Describing all payment methods and rates supported :)

If you had a Sterling account with someone like HSBC then you would be able to transfer pounds, your wife is probably just thinking about exchange fees to USD then additional exchange fees to PHP.

    From the SUREMONEY web site

How do I send money to the Philippines?
You can call our office from 2:00 am to 5:30 pm Mondays to Fridays and 9:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturdays on our landlines and skype lines. Our Customer Service Associates (CSAs) will be on hand to help you every step of the way. For clients who have internet access, you can email us or better yet, chat with our CSAs via skype, yahoo or MSN messenger.

I don't want to phone someone up every time i want to send out...! I don't use yahoo or MSN messenger or skype and I don't want to.

    4. What are the requirements when sending money to the Philippines?
You need to provide us with your identification i.e. Passport, Company Id, Driver’s License duly certified by your Bank Manager, Employer, Solicitor or any person of authority who can attest to the authenticity of your identification. We also need a copy of your latest proof of billing address i.e. telephone bill, electric bill, bank statement.

alot just to send money, who do they think I am. today you never know where your info go's..!

no for the moment I'll stay with my bank, pain that it is.

The proper remittance services are all like that Anthony, the absolute cheapest way is to send through a Philippine remittance company or a Philippine bank like PNB or Metrobank and they will all ask you for this level of identification, the advantage is that you can send for example 1000 pounds for a fiver through PNB and it will get there next day reliably.

I "satisfied" their requirements, which are in fact required by International Banking Law to combat money laundering, when sending large amounts of money abroad. We were building our house, in PI, then.

The whole World is feked up by RULES.?

Sure but when you are sending £500 GBP (or bellow) fee is £5 GBP, so you are still in savings way.
And with http://azimo.com you can pay directly with debit card, so that saves time as well.
And if you are abroad and forgot your bank token then paying by card might be your only option.
