Unless i'm reading the pretty graphs all wrong..it seems there have been less than 5000 deaths from covid in China. Out of a population of 1.4 billion...i.e. 20 times the populationof the Uk. But we have approaching ten times the number of deaths. So whats China's secret ? Or are their numbers somewhat inaccurate?
They have probably lied a bit, we're lying about our numbers after all, but apart from that we have been over this many times, the main secret is they are an authoritarian state and can order the population around any way they want, they shutdown in ways that we can only dream of, the population had to co-operate there was no choice. As I have said before I have a Scottish niece living and working in China and she has been there for a long time now, if it were all pretend she would have gotten the vibe from the people she works with and the locals that she is close too, as far as I can see in her location everything is fine. USA deaths per million = 737 UK deaths per million = 724 Japan deaths per million = 14 South Korea deaths per million = 9 Nigeria deaths per million = 6 New Zealand deaths per million = 5 Singapore deaths per million = 5 China deaths per million = 3 Thailand deaths per million = 0.9 Most of these countries in the second group with one or two exceptions implemented very tough controls very early, they didn't sit on their backsides for 2 months, Nigeria might have had the benefit of sun, I don't know but I thought I would throw in at least one that was harder to explain.
Just been to town to pay my monthly electric bill, must have been about 40 waiting all wearing mask 1 meter apart. Okay before you enter the building you have to fill in some details, address, name, phone number etc. Then you have to fill in the same form again using the pen everyone's used. It only takes one person with coved 19 who is asymptomatic to pass on the virus. Some I noticed after filling in the forms touched their mask or face.
Almost everyone is constantly adjusting masks when they are out, the reality is that an infected individual is going to leave traces all over the place because of hand mask contact and general poor hand hygiene, but the important thing from a self protection viewpoint is for you not to let your hands get near your eyes while you are out and to use 70% alcohol on your hands often when you exit any such grouping of people. And if you care about others you would use rubbing alcohol on the way into such groupings as well. The issue of surface contact is manageable albeit a real burden to do properly but the real value of masks is to reduce the chance of airborne transmission.
