This Thursday, I’m taking Joy to London to renew her passport at the Philippine Embassy. So a few questions for you guys...

We should arrive in London for about 8am, then we will make our way to Piccadilly Circus before walking to the embassy, hopefully we will be there and out again within a couple of hours (here’s hoping). So for those who have got a new passport there, what documents did you take (I think we have it covered, just want some additional info – in case we’re missing something)?

Afterwards, we won’t be heading back to Manchester until 5pm, so we have all afternoon in London to do the tourist thing.. But aside from Big Ben, the Palace... I plan to stop into a Filipino cafe.... Where are they? And does anyone know of any good ones?

First of all, you may be asked for photocopies, and a copier is strategically situated in one of the side rooms... So I would advise on taking enough coins....

    As a day trip....

You will need a couple of virgin SD cards........
The Embassy is a short walk to Trafalgar Square, a few hundred yards..

We went down from Trafalgar Square all the way to Whitehall, the Cenotaph, then westminster and Big ben, the cathedral, then over the bridge to the London Eye. a quick round on the glorified Ferris wheel, including customary photo and back the same way....
Zillions of photos were shot during the day..........

Happiness in some quarters and absolute agony in others....

Nice one, I actually dreaded taking the wife to London as I was determined I was going to hate it. Truth is I was pleasantly surprised. One thing I'll do differently next time is get a hotel futher out of town. It should be considerably cheaper rather than the covent garden hotel we where in last time.

That's what we did a couple of Christmas's ago. Staid in a Premier Inn in Luton (of all places) then travelled into central London by mainline train each day. It worked well.

    Good thinking...

I kind of enjoyed London this time (I usually hate being there, too many people running around). Though I think I need to spend a few days there, might book a short break for summer 2014. Would like to walk around without the panic of "do we have enough time" sinking in every 15 minutes..

Those off peak travel cards are pretty good considering the trains pass through each station about a minute or so between them.

I had a mate do the same as well. I just couldn't stand the idea of staying in Luton though!!! Might try it next time though. I can say that because it's going to be a good few years before we go again

We generally walked everywhere, most of what we (I) wanted to see was near the center anyways so a rail card actually proved not to be worth while. Things are very surprisingly close together in London if you an your days. Saying that sometimes we would get the tube (more for the experience for the wife) out to a place and then walk back, visiting a few pubs on the way. Hic! Think the furthest we walked was from Tower of London via the tower marking the seat of the great fire, along fleet st back to the hotel at covent garden. Also walked to harrods, via pall mall and St James.

    Comfy shoes is the answer

Been there! That's what I say to the wife every time we see Buck palace on the TV, just to tease her of the great few days we spent there. She used to smile when I said it but she's getting bored of me saying it now ... I still keep saying it though :) Great PIC tho John

Thanks. We did two trips into London. One to the vicinity of Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace and Big Ben.

And on the second day we did the Tower of London area and Madam Tussauds.
