As long as the test meets UKBA requirements (currently A1 but B1 from October 2013) she can take either test, though she may want to consider the Academic test rather than the general test if she wants to go into higher education in the UK.

There is a third option you may want to consider if you cannot meet any income requirements at the time of Visa application; that is the EU Route. This would mean you and your Mahal living and working in another EU country for a period and then moving to the UK. This would bypass any UK visa and income requirements. But, given your dependence on DLA, this may not be an option for you.[/QUOTE]

    Hi everyone,

I'm a Filipina working as an EFL teacher here in Hanoi. I met my fiancé here. We lived together for more than two years before he took me to England to meet his parents. They took the role of sponsor as my fiancé does not work in the UK.

We have plans of getting married and settling down in the UK in the future. And, I'm looking at possible options to make this happen, taking into consideration that my fiancé is working abroad and doesn't have a stable job in the UK.

Would working in EU route be better for us? How does this work?

Would it be better for him to go home, get a job and then apply for a fiancé visa?

Would it be better to get married in the Philippines and get a spouse visa? I heard from some people that it would be better to get married in the uk as it's harder to get a spouse visa?

Thanks so much for any advice that you could give me.

I dont know anything about the EU route.

Your fiance certainly could come back to the UK and get a job and then apply for a Fiancee visa. That works. Or equally you could marry in the Philippines and your hubby could come back to the UK and get a job and then you could apply for a Spouse visa. There are advantages and disadvantages to each of the two routes. Its down to your personal preference. The spousal route kind of works out a bit cheaper, it isnt any harder.

We got married in the Philippines. I reckon it was the best route. But equally those who gained Fiance visas and married in the UK often feel that route is the best.
