I get your point but it's important to note that the vast majority of oil based paints use linseed oil, the seeds of flax an organic renewable material.

It was meant as a one liner bit of humour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However to take your point I dont see on these protesters t shirts or banners "Just stop Oil, but linseed oil, or any other organic renewable material that produces oil is OK" perhaps its on the back!

You wanna think about something, something I have argued all my life, the oil that we drill out of the ground is a limited resource that we burn, we waste, it's also an extremely valuable industrial material feedstuff, it's value and the value of the remaining stocks in the ground is far greater as a raw material than it's value as an energy source, once it is gone the only sources of raw material for plastics for the fundamental building materials that form the basis of our modern world will be agriculture, we will have to devote huge amounts of land to materials crops at the same time as we are supposed to be devoting that land to solar energy and at the same time as we need that land for food crops.

    It does not add up.

We burn more than 1 cubic mile of oil every year, our material requirements are microscopic in comparison, all that oil in the ground that scientists say needs to stay there for the climate to be protected won't stay there forever because we will still need oil for materials, it's just that the oil businesses wil not be as rich because we won't need anything like as much of an amount of oil every year and those business don't like that idea, they like the the drill it and burn it quickly idea because that makes them money, who gives a f*ck about climate or pollution, these people are fighting that mindset, I don't think they always get their point across very well because they don't necessarily always understand the issues at a deep level themselves but their point is not wrong and memes like this one quoted are a stupid diversion.

This stunt hurts me, they have a valid protest but destroying or damaging high art achieves nothing, it was tomato soup it has apparently been cleaned already.

The slogan "what is worth more art or life" yeah it's a valid point but art IS life, it brings meaning to life in all its forms, this time this was a stupid form of protest and certainly the wrong target, this is little different to the Taliban’s destruction of the Bamiyan Buddha statues, although these girls have far less evil motivation but it is still much closer to the meaningless vandalism of the Taliban in 2001.

We need people to have some way to listen to our concerns about climate, the reason that we have so many things that you guys find objectionable is that they are trying to wake you up to make you care because they don't see anyone doing anything about it, they don't always express themselves in the best way but they are desperate because no one is f*cking listening.

The mouthy girl on that clip is a rebel without a clue, a while ago she was protesting against Palestine, then gluing herself to a road, now an art vandal, someone like that can't wake me up, everyone needs to wake up but no one is, I am just 1 of 8? billion and the vast majority around the world are struggling with survival and not listening to some middle-class rebel.

I accept that John and I understand that.

The protest movements and other people protesting rarely have a complete and full understanding of the science but they at least have understood that there is incredibly strong evidence to show that we are screwing up this planet, they are doing their bit to try to get attention on the matter, the rationale behind their actions is valid but the actual protest actions they take might seem misguided.

See my reply to Druk, I expand on oil as a material resource and it's value which is huge, "Just stop burning Oil" would be a more appropriate slogan, really just stop burning more than a cubic mile of oil every year would be better but people should see that when they see "Just Stop Oil" demanding a nit picking detailed accurate slogan doesn't help.

    Ok but "middle-class" rebel?

How easy is it for those with no voice elsewhere on this earth who are so poor they have no chance of having a voice anywhere, they aren't perfect but these "middle-class" voices are at least standing up and standing up for the disenfranchised in the world as well.
