Yes, it is a same sex relationship. That is why we are going to get married in the British Embassy in Manila, because we cannot elsewhere in the Philippines.
One of the contracting parties has to be a British citizen but the union has no legal basis here at all - for example, they could not apply for a 13(a) Spousal Residence Visa.
I am aware of that, Markham. But thanks for telling me. I was not intending to settle here permanently anyway, and we are planning our lives together in the UK - eventually.
Aposhark, I was wondering how you arrived at the figure of £10,000. Are you able to break it down and show how much you spend on what during the process? I will definitely not go via an agency and incur more unnecessary fees. When I do eventually get my share of the assets from my divorce, my finances will be limited, but I think I can cope with £10,000.
Hi Bill, I posted a breakdown of the costs of how much it cost me from the moment I met my wife in the Philippines to the endgame of getting her UK passport here in the UK. Unfortunately I cannot find the post now, sorry. For me it was £10,000 and that included marriage in the Philippines, flights, hotels, spousal visa fee, ILR, British citizenship and passport. Of course this can be less or more depending on the couple.
Not forgetting that costs have risen, even since my wife got her visa in 2011. Particularly the NHS surcharge. And the extra FLR fee.
Thanks, Aposhark and JohnAsh. I'll bear that in mind. At least it gives me an idea of what the costs are for.
Indefinite Leave to Remain and Further Leave to Remain, respectively. Am off to work now, but no doubt another member will explain the difference. Both are key points along the winding path to British Citizenship.
You may - and perhaps should - have been but Maharg wasn't aware of this new service, hence his question and my answer.
Wikipedia do a definition of Indefinite Leave to Remain http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indefinite_leave_to_remain
And here is a written up source on Further Leave to Remain http://www.ukmarriagevisa.com/applying-further-leave-to-remain-from-inside-the-uk
