I pay for all household expenses and the wife's car expenses other than petrol, though whenever I use it there seems to be nothing in the tank...:(

When we were both in Abu Dhabi and absolutely not living together ;) I would pay the rent, bills, food and any other expenses, my fiance (GF at the time) would do the weekly house clean and all the washing up, with me doing most of the cooking too. Only very occasionally she would buy a take away if we stopped at McDonalds for breakfast when I dropped her at work. This worked well but there was a mahoosive difference in our respective wages.

When we are married and living and working in the UK, not even thought of it yet, I guess we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

Its a good question though cos the modern way of thinking in the UK is very different to the more traditional viewpoint of most of the rest of the world.

Same here, when my GF later fiancé then wife, and I were definitely not living together in Dubai, I paid for everything. The sort of salary that she would be able to earn there, would be a pittance compared to mine, and I would have to tolerate her being away from the house for many long hours, weekends etc. So she was the traditional stay at home wife, home-maker. She did all the cooking, cleaning in our home, shopping was shared, either she did it or we did a big shop together, but I paid for it. We have the same arrangement living here in Philippines. I am happily retired and I want my wife to be with me, not out working for a very low wage.
