    Hi again

Please can you help, even in the smallest way with £1. I know everyone is weary of requests for good causes, but you can really make a difference. We're raising £1500 to pay for Dialysis for Mae from the Philippines because Mae needs twice weekly Dialysis to keep her alive. Please pledge to my JustGiving Crowdfunding Page and help make it happen:

    https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/james-casey?utm_id=2
Mae was beaten unconscious by an ex boyfriend & went into a coma. The drugs used to keep her alive, permanently damaged her kidneys. She had to give up her job and needs twice weekly dialysis and a transplant. The Philippine Govt pays 50% of treatment costs, her Dad is dead and her mother can't afford the costs from her pension. When Mae can't pay for treatment, she has to skip dialysis, which leads to her needing full transfusions. A week ago she had a 55 blood count & pneumonia. We can help.

    Many thanks in advance.

Your opening two words "Hi again" suggest that you have posted here before. You have not. You only joined the forum today and posted the above message TWICE.

We don't know you from the proverbial bar of soap, nor do we know this "Mae" lady on whose behalf you are making an appeal. You will forgive my cynicism when I explain to you that serious illness is one of the levers scammers employ to extract money from the unwary. Sorry but I have read far too many similar messages that were almost certainly bogus.

Thank you for your message. You are right about the hi again, I shouldn't have included this, but I copied the email i sent to everyone in my Outlook Contacts and I know these people. I am certainly not a scammer. I posted the notice in this forum in the hope that many of the Filipinos reading it would feel compassion and donate some money. You obviously do not want to, which is completely your right, but please don't accuse me of being a scammer and put off others who might want to help Mae. The information I posted and the additional information on the just giving site is real and true. Just Giving authenticate everyone and their 'good cause' prior to allowing anyone to use their service.

Fair enough! I understand that you are sceptical. However, it is not possible to use 'Just Giving' without being authenticated. If you had no doubts about the authenticity, would it make any difference???? I am happy to provide more information and photos about Mae and give her long standing Facebook page etc. etc. if it would make any difference, as I am concerned about her and want to help her, coz she is in desperate need. I am happy to spend my time providing additional information, if it will make a difference , but if you have no intention of giving anything, there I obviously won't bother. just let me know.

There is no mention of Mae or her plight on your own website James, your last entry on that site was May 14th this year.

And really the problem here is 'first post' and the nature of the post, had you previously shown an interest in this forum and what it is about then we may well have been much more sympathetic, but really you won't get far with your current strategy here or elsewhere.

As to how I know about your own website, your email address is published on the Just Giving page, that gives me your domain, and you host a website on your domain.

Oh and almost every forum on the planet gets upset about duplicate threads.

Strategy!!? I am simply trying to raise some money to help someone in dire need. What web site? I don't have a web site. I have a work web site, but that is all. The duplicate thread was a simple error and it is not the end of the world is it? .... As I said, I am only trying to help someone. If you do not want to help, that is your prerogative, but I am not sure why I feel under attack. I am not doing anything wrong. I am not forcing you or anyone else to do anything, so please don't be such a sceptic. I have posted onto this forum as I am British and I am based in both the UK and the Philippines and I thought that I may find some sympathetic people. I am still hopeful and I hope your opinion of how others will react to my appeal will be wrong.

    Didn't want to do this

You can find that from your email address which is published on the JustGiving appeal Contact James Casey

this is your website, if you think it is not a website then you have some strange notion of what the internet actually is, your picture is on that page.

Also as I don't intend to create backlinks to your site this post will be removed shortly, or rather I will edit out the links.

If this is actually a genuine attempt to help someone then your 'Strategy' is posting directly on forums with no 'real' introduction, as Markham pointed out nobody here knows you from Adam.

Honestly that approach simply does not work anywhere on the web, really it does not, and you don't look that young so I am quite surprised that a mature person would even imagine that it might.

The vast majority of the people on this forum have family in the Philippines, the vast majority of them will have bent over backwards to help family members in the Philippines through thick and thin, people here have helped rebuild homes after storms, paid for medical expenses for operations, put kids though school, the list is endless.

We know and understand the Philippines and we help freely and most of us don't often talk about actual numbers.

It's a tough life out there, you have been there a while you should be well aware of that.

Ive looked at the link you provided and the pictures on it certainly it shows a picture of a young lady receiving treatment via a hospital machine, however my gaze was also taken by the picture of the man leaping about on a beach certainly looks to be having fun! you allude to being in Asia and a traveller and having a lazy 2 months allright for some! Also the picture on the 2 websites pretty identical all in all .

He seems a nice enough fella enjoying his life travelling around etc..Good for him!
I did the same thing at his age.. The problem is that when some people visit the R.P they get completely engrossed in the local culture as they observe that everyone is smiling and happy often inviting them to eat with them etc.. The Filipino`s are the most hospitable people in the world etc (which I still think is true).. The problems begin when these infectious smiles and warm hospitality start to make us think that culturally speaking we are similar to them but they are just so very much more happier and positive than us!..
Then you can let down your guard and forget everything you ever learned about trust..Because this is Paradise where only good things happen!!
James..Please do NOT negotiate with anyone to buy land here..You can not own it PERIOD.. Dont let your sister down by telling her she can buy a lot and build a house on it and then it will become hers..
If you want to lease a small area for say a period of 25 years (for your laundry venture) then that may be possible but even then you need to know how to check the land history and ownership records via a number of different Government offices..You will also need to have a good lawyer that has your interests at heart and not those you are leasing from.. That in itself is not an easy task unless you have someone here that is genuinely looking out for you.
I understand your concern for this girl and I hope you can help her get the help she needs.. Quite a few of us Foreigners have experienced and are experiencing the same dilemma.
    Good luck and be careful.

Our friend James is in "holiday mode" in the surf capital of the country and his rose-tinted spectacles have never left his face! But I do wonder if, when blogging about his time, he is even in the same country as Boots and I:
It's a well-known fact that Filipinos are prepositionally-challenged, for the simple reason that there are only two in the various dialects, and will often confuse gender-specific pronouns by saying something like "he walked with her girlfriend". And it is incorrect to say that Filipinos have the same culture as us - that's an impression one might acquire from staying in the poshest hotels and observing the wealthier Filipinos and travelling from one posh venue to the next in a limo with blackened windows. As most of us know, Filipinos have a "me first", "live for the day" mentality.

So I'm tempted to ask if he's travelled to this country vicariously.

If he really is here, he should be much more circumspect about those he's listening to and taking advice from. As a foreigner he can not own real property nor can he own a business outright. I will go further: as a foreigner he should not go into business here period; it will not end well. If he wants to get some good advice from a long-term Expat, he should seek out James Musselwhite who's pretty well-known in Surigao and Dingat island.

I would really like to believe that this is a genuine attempt to help someone who really needs it and I hope that's the case, but its hard not to be cynical because there are so many people in the world who are willing to tell lies in order to make a snappy dollar.

Personally, I know enough needy people in my wife's immediate family (including one member who is not far away from needing dialysis) that I don't really have the spare funds to help someone else - you can't help everyone. The world is full of sad stories.

If this is a genuine attempt to assist someone, then I suspect you might make more of a difference by donating some of your income (if this person is related to you or your partner) in some way. A one-off payment of a thousand quid isn't going to make much difference long term. This sort of treatment is expensive and on-going after all.. . The very best of luck..

Something Dom pointed out to me, given that is was probably me that let this chap on here.

He signed up at 8:34 yesterday from an IP Address in Bali.

A few hours later he was posting from Jakarta.

Now I guess it is always possible that the traceroute we use is getting confused but generally I have found it extremely accurate at locating people.

It tracks our globe trotting friend Dave pretty well :D
